    For those current owners and previous owners of a Corolla GL 16V, please provide your experience and info on your fuel consumption with this car.

    Planning to buy one for my wife, thanks.

    I drive a ae92 corolla 1.6 GL (i assume that you are talking about the ae92). It is not EFI so medyo magastos sa gas pero the performance is great. In terms of maintenance, since our Corolla is already 15 years old, there are parts already that need to be replaced. Kakapalit lang kanina ng idler bearing. Though parts are abundant.

    you might be looking into a lot more problems if you are getting the AE89 corolla. A newer model like the (1992-1996) Corolla AE101 or (1997-2000) Corolla AE111 are newer and offers better fuel milage and cooler aircon systems and power steering.

    Of the two (AE101 & AE111), I would suggest the AE101 because of the more spacious rear seating. Mechanically, they are nearly the same.

    Guys, thanks for the response and suggestion. My consideration when I was thinking of the AE92 (Corolla 1.6 GL) is that since it is an old model it will be easier to maintain because it is carburator type. I heared that the EFI of 94 and up GLi models cost about 50k, baka kasi makabili ako ng GLi na pasira na ang EFI. I was trying to avoid that. But you're right XL/XE could be a good choice. XE siguro para at least naman ay power steering.

    Carlocaraddict, how much kilometerage are you getting with your AE92?

    For the wifey dapat yung mas-bago. Kasi pag nag break down yan, tatawagan ka pupuntahan mo pa.

    Pero for a personal car I can toy with, I wouldn't mind getting one. I was able to drive one for a few months. Lakas lang sa gas kasi carb tapos ang sarap ihataw. Sabi nila medyo mahina daw ang stock brakes, siguro dahil masyado na silang mabilis. Hehe.

    the_wildthing, sana nga mas bago pero isa sa motivation ko na rin ba't etong model 'yong trip ko is para magamit ko na rin during weekends, gaya ng sabi mo sarap ihataw, paminsan-minsan naman makatikim ako ng mabilis na acceleration (bagal kasi sa acce ang xuvi), hehehe
    Can you remember, how much is your fuel consumption that time?

    The 1992 nissan sentra 1.6 ECCS is even faster than the old 16V Corolla. It even has power windows and power steering as standard. Downside, the stock 13 inch alloy wheels isn't really sporty.

    Sentra = 110hp
    Corolla = 96hp

    Price-wise, a 92 model sentra is relatively cheap to buy and you can choose from either the 1.4L or the 1.6L variants.

    Maganda nga yung Sentra lalo na pag mainit. Sa mga compacts of that era, ayos talaga ang aircon nung ECCS...

    Yung AE92 ni ermats 7 years na sa amin (2nd hand nakuha) oks pa rin ngayon, sarap pa rin ihataw, and parts are cheap and abundant. Syempre dami na rin pinalitan kasi nga old car na (umderchassis usually). Ganda lang dito oks pormahan yung sa amin naka JDM look na, with 15 inch wheels. Di ko lang sure fuel consumption siguro aabot ng 12-13 km/L (di ako sure dito ha, guesstimate lang hehe)

    Agree ako, kung between AE92 and B13 (tama ba?) na ECCS, I'd go with the Sentra. Kung between AE92 GL vs XE/XL na AE101, dun ako sa mas bago din.

    Regarding your concern sa ECU ng rolla, unless nalubog o pinaglalaruan ng previous owner, it'll not break down on you.

    With 2nd hand cars, stick to a unit that's as close to stock as possible. Don't bother factoring mga comments like "ay sirain ang Sentra" "mahina pangilalim ng Corolla" etc... That's useless info, kung alaga ang oto vs laspag, kahit Rolls pa yan bulok padin kung laspag.

    1.6V GL (AE92), 96hp lang ba 'yon? Hmmm, is there a hint if the EFI/ECCS of is about to brea? Baka when I test drive a unit malaman at that instant.

    I'll consider the Sentrac ECCS 1.6 as a choice, maganda kasi pag standard ang power amenities niya para convenient na rin ka Misis.

    Salamat sa mga inputs/suggestions. Pag meron pa jang suggestion just keep them coming.

    I'll be scouting 'good' (AE92 and B13?-ECCS) this weeekend.
