its a gas 7k engine. stock setup pa siya. ang problema kasi ang lakas ng vibration nya pag cold start, parang diesel talaga. pati body nanginginig. onting rev nababawasan yung vibration, high revs wala. pag mainit na engine nababawasan yung vibration pero umaalog pa rin yung kambyo, if you drive it during noontime minsan pati steering wheel may onting vibration, minimal but nonetheless annoying considering its a gas engine. tapos amoy gasolina yung exhaust nya, though nagtutubig ang exhaust meaning maganda timpla (supposedly) ng air-fuel.

its been like this for a year or so. di lang masyado pinapansin kasi sunday car lang siya. though nung na-aquire yung gen3 vios ng aunt ko i cant help but compare the smoothness of its engine. kasi di ba pag gas dapat tahimik at pino? diesel maingay at vibration. na-top overhaul na siya 3-4 years ago dahil may singaw ang valve sa cylinder #3, plus may biyak yung intake manifold sa #3 and 4. it was repaired with high temp steel epoxy afaik.

    current problems:

    1> amoy gas ang exhaust
    2> vibrations, vibrations!
3> sometimes amoy gas din sa engine bay after a very long drive.

    ngayon eto na ang nagawa:

1> replace spark plugs - tune up basically, still the same results. pag hinuhugot ang high tension wire ng SP #4 walang difference sa vibration, sa #3 onti lang, sa #1 and #2 namamatay ang makina. SP's are OEM spec by the way.

2> replace ignition coil from replacement to stock coil - nawala yung hard starting pero problem is still there.

any permanent solution to this? this vehicle has never failed us wherever we go, power and torque is still there. and it has served us well. what better way to say thank you than put it in pristine condition right?

Naalala ko nung araw yung sasakyan namin dad ko nagtu-tune up. Iniikot nya yung distributor cap para maging pino yung idling nung sasakyan. That was our toyota tamaraw yung unang unang generation. Carb engine sya. Hindi ko lang sure sa case mo bossing kasi since then hindi na ako exposed sa mga engines until now sa Gen3 vios ko which is electronic na.

Has it gone thru regular maintenance checks?

You might want to check the condition of the gasoline. Given you said you only use this vehicle on the weekend, the gasoline might have started to "spoil". This is the problem is E10 blended gasoline.

How many weeks since you added gasoline in the tank? Has it been a couple of months na? From experience, E10 gasoline can go bad in as little as six weeks in the fuel tank.

Characteristics of spoiled gasoline: bad idle (vibration), underpowered when driven "normally", strong bad smell from the exhaust.

    Sir nori,
Yung sa SP #4 mo, its a sign na there's little to no combustion at all. Dapat, every high tension wire that is unplugged, manginginig dapat ang andar ng makina. Try checking your high tension wires and the socket connections baka naman wala ng continuity yan kaya di na dumadaloy kuryente. Check also for high tension sockets for signs of corrosion. Usually, yan and problem sa SP #4, since madalas yan ang nababasa ng tubig since kung minsan may leak na yung gasket ng hood ng mga FX natin, kaya diyan diretso ang patak ng tubig.

Also try the gasoline type as mentioned by Sir GH. Ako, I felt the difference nung nag Petron Blaze ako, plus the fully synthetic oil. Laki ng pinagbago during cold start-ups. You may also check your ignition timing after using Blaze. Ako, I advanced it a little (konti lang ), which gained me a smoother and more responsive engine.

    Good luck!

bihira lang siya lumampas ng 1/2 tank when the vehicle is in storage. last time i used it to travel up north it was 3/4 down to near empty, had it refuelled to 3/4 and near empty twice. all these with a week in between refuelling and travelling. im using fuelsave unleaded from shell and di binabaha yung gas station plus madami customers so spoilage doesnt worry me. or at least i hope so.

    * sir jvnj - sinubukan ko na pagpalitin yung HTW ng #3 and #4, same results. also tried cleaning the distributor cap to no avail.

Sir nori, i think you can now isolate the high tension issue as what you've discussed above. Now, try removing your plug #4 and observe the condition; is it black filled with carbon, oily or somewhat wet with gasoline? If one of these symptoms appear, then your cylinder # 4 is not detonating properly. It could be either worn rings, leaking valve/s, etc.

medyo black siya. more like soot, not carbon build up.

    update update!

i think i found the culprit. may hissing sound sa bandang firewall. tried checking vacuum hoses and all pipings. turns out may oil leak between the engine block and the cylinder head dun sa rear part ng engine. kaya siguro deads yung cylinder 4 and mahina reaction ng cylinder 3 sa hugot-HTW test.

now, kung papalitan ko yung gaskets (cylinder head and intake/exhaust manifold) pwede bang yun lang palitan o sulit na ire-seat yung valves, palit valve seals etc? how much kaya damage nito?
