It is for 98% of the population (we are talking about 107m out of the 110m population of the philippines). If you can afford a 2m+ anything, then yeah its a symbol of your capability and status in this society.

Am not talking about its qualities (of which it has many which i admire as well).

Was referring to the base model fortuner though... sabi kasi ni mr. egan, yung iba pinipili nila ang fortuner kaysa innova even though it has a less powerful engine, and it will probably be the used for the same purpose i.e. city driving only, no off-roading, etc... Again nothing wrong, it’s just an odd reason. But it’s their life, at least hindi ninakaw (?) yung pambili.

BTW dati ganyan din tingin ko sa PPV - "yuck 3rd world car hindi binibenta sa US/EU"

But as I learned more about the topic I realized iba lang talaga market ng cars dun vs here.

The good thing is we have a breadth of options - if you want a comfy, soft riding CUV meron naman dito, if you want a rugged, high-riding PPV meron din. Kung may pera ka for a comfortable but rugged SUV sobrang daming LC200 dito.

    This is so true bro!

Iba talaga preference per region. Also, if factor sayo yung pagiging global model ng car, marami rin namang options na global models sa pinas like civic, altis, and etc.

may car manufacturers na mas prefer to sell a model na almost same across the globe.. siguro para mas madali sa production line.. pero at a higher cost sa showroom.. but like toyota they can modify their line-up para sa bansa na pagbebentahan at pasok lang dun sa competitive price..

Options... that’s funny. I really want those but these PPVs essentially killed that market.

Tagal na may option niyan - from 2005 to 2017 may ganyang option, kaso wala nang bumibili. So tinanggal.

May 2.5 Turbo Mazda 6 ngayon na same power as those 3.5 V6. May bumibili ba? Halos wala.

Couldn’t afford one back in the day but I wished I could. Ngayon na medyo nakaluwag na, these options are gone. You’ll have to turn to the 2nd hand market. You’re still right though... lots of good options.... that is, if you’re an SUV lover..

Just because lots of people are buying a specific car doesn’t mean its the best car out there. Toxic yung mindset na ganun. Promotes an unhealthy market

Kung nakakaluwag ka naman pala, Lexus IS350. Last of the NA V6.

Sufficient naman ang 180-200 hp for city/highway driving for most people.

Kasi PPV in this environment wins hands down. And for toys? They get Hilux and Rangers.

Have driven 2.0 turbos and have driven 3.5 V6s. 2.0 turbo has more useable power early on which is what you typically need 80% of the time for city driving and overtaking on provincial roads. V6 is best if you will drive hard at high rpm continuously, which is rare except on the track.

So even if most 2.0 turbos are only in the 240-280 hp range, same useable power siya as a 300 hp 3.5 V6 and has a quicker butt dyno feel.

Average Fortuner buyer: middle manager/businessman earning 120-160k per month, ~40 yrs old

Only 5% of Forts are 4x4 so it's really the ride height, image, diesel perks, and space that people buy into.

What's The Income, Lifestyle Of A Typical Toyota Fortuner Customer?

These Asian PPVs are meant for all-around utility use and performance is not much of a key requirement for most buyers. People buy the best one for their needs.

If you want performance out of a truck, then get one of those American SUVs or full-size pickup trucks - they have big powerful engines, lots of towing capability, they are quick off the line but they are expensive and consumes a lot more fuel.
