Kakatakam yung torque ratings nung diesel coming from 260Nm * 1600-2400rpm sa previous engine to 359 Nm * 1,200-2,600 rpm (AT), 342 Nm * 1,200-2,600 rpm (MT) sa new.
Bumaba na nga ang start, mas lumawak pa yung range to 2,600 rpm.
Engine torque was "relatively low" on the current diesel Innovas, mainly because they did not get the VNT upgrade,- similar to the current crop of Fortuners starting in 2012. They are at 340+Nm starting at 1,600RPM....

How about the gas engine? Is that an improvement over the current version, or is it just the same?

Medyo nagtataka lang ako kasi yung power ratings na pinost ni Syuryuken (2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol, 137 BHP * 5,600 rpm, 183 Nm * 4,000 rpm) ay halos kaparehas lang ng rating sa current gas engine ng Innova based sa 2012 review ng autoindustriya (http://www.autoindustriya.com/car-re...nnova-20e.html).
Yung lower output ng new model dahil siguro sa adjustment due to Euro4 compliance. Yung Avanza ganun din sa pagkakaalam ko. Pero numbers lang yan, tingnan na lang natin on-road performance, tiyak mas matipid since dual-vvti.
Agree rin ako, maganda tuning ng 2GD sa Innova kung peak torque output at 1,200 rpm. Effortless and predictable acceleration since minimal turbo lag kung nakaspread output throughout the rev range. Much better imo than the Hilux/Fortuner with a higher peak but in a narrower band.
