Cars are really getting smaller and smaller. So is this smaller than a Vios? Will this belong to a new category (sub-sub compact car). Compact Car= Corolla, Sub compact=Vios, Sub sub compact=Yaris???

I think it belongs to the supermini category, together with the Getz and Picanto. It's pretty. I expect the price tag to be, well, not so pretty.

I think it is also known as the Vitz and Echo in other countries. Perhaps TMPI decided to sell it here as the Yaris since the Echo was not successful here.

The Yaris is the 2nd gen Vitz/Echo for the hatchback. The Yaris sedan is the 2nd gen Platz/Echo sedan. The Yaris name replaced the Echo name in markets where the Echo was sold but retained the Vitz name for the JDM. Its the same with the sedan versions with the Yaris replacing the Echo but the Platz was renamed the Belta in Japan. Though I've seen spy shots of Yaris sedans with Vios name plates. Probably, the Yaris sedan/Belta will be sold as the next gen Vios in markets where the Vios is sold.
