The new version may be the Yaris sedan renamed Vios for the RP market. Both the 1.3 2NZ-FE and the 1.5 1NZ-FE engines are used in both the Vios and Yaris already so it wouldn't be too far off to speculate. AFAIK the current Vios is based on the previous Echo platform.

Oops... I think cpudle has it. Toyota did unveil the Vios S-variant at the World of Toyota, but they haven't put it into the showroom yet.

Yaris is a completely different vehicle which Toyota Phil. plans to use against the Honda Jazz. It was supposed to be released here last year.

In the Car and Driver May'06 issue, the Yaris did get trashed badly by the Jazz.

If Toyota makes these new Vios here then I think they also price it lower now that they dont have to pay the same weight for importation taxes and transportation costs than it was with the current CBUs.
