Toyota should launch a more powerful model of the Altis to steal the Speed King crown from that SiR. The engine is a 1.8-liter VVTL-i found in the Celica and Matrix. Plus add in the 6-speed transmission. That should translate to 0-100 km/h acceleration of around 7 seconds and a top speed of over 220. And if this will be sold at less than a million, there will be a lot of buyers!

most car companies really haven't gotten the idea that a lot of people here in the philippines crave for power and speed :!:

but the problem is if you put a very powerful car to a stupid driver, disaster would surely happen. that's why imprezas are sold very high even though it's just a 4-door saloon. no offense to sir owners but some owners want speed but doesn't know how to handle it. that's why we have lots of accidents involving sir's. having that powerful car, the driver should have advance driving lessons or track experience.

but the local civic sir also had very minimal safety features as compared to other sedans on the market. No ABS brake, no airbag, etc. A good thing though is that its got 4 wheel disc brakes but the choice of stock tires also sucked.

well, those lack of safety features should've gone into the heads of those drivers, but no!... they still pushed the car.. and when its time to stop!.. *bam!*..... then they'll put the blame in lousy safety features.... i still think it's all in the driver. If he knows his car is not safe... then why drive the hell out of it??

Anyone here know how to tune the 1.6 VVTi Altis? I don't think there are any bolt-on mods for the engine in the market yet. Could be wrong though...

I almost 'parked' an SiR on a center island once. Walang ABS and nahirapan ako mag-modulate dahil may buhangin pala sa daan.

Straight-line speed? Anyone can do that! What cannot be done by just any person is to control his car according to its power. Thus those accidents that see people killed. :!: Sadly, marami kasi sa ating puro pakitang-gilas lang sa mga kargadong kotse. Wala naman palang binatbat!

So before you speed up, better make sure you can handle the true potential of your car! But still, on with the 180-hp Altis here!

guys, whats the true hp rating ba of the 2zz-ge engine of toyota? kasi, when sportcompact magazine dyno tested the matrix(1.8), 159.9 hp lumabas. they dyno tested it first b4 they installed a turbo charger. after installing the turbo, 210+ hp na.

    kala ko ba 180 hp?

    sekbomb,

Yung figures published by manufacturers ay flywheel horsepower. Dynotests measure wheel horsepower. There is a corresponding power loss as the power is transmitted from the flywheel through the transmission and drivetrain. It is not 100% efficient.

nah, matatagalan bago magrelease ang toyota ng ganyan. Because primarily, we, performance enthusiasts, are so small and tiny of a segment compared to the overall market which touota is driving at. Napakaliit na niche tayo to consider, for them to think of risking millions to invest on a new engine, market a new engine.

Kung titignan natin sa road ngayun, ano ba ang ratio ng mga pormado na car sa mga hindi pormado? 2: 100? sa buong pinas yan ah.. shempre as a company, lalo na conservative japanese, ayaw nila ng risk, what they want is a tried and true formula to win the market, which is definitely working now, with the different packages offered my toyota sa altis, revo, and rav 4.

So what we can do is wait and wait, till our country, and its companies are rich enough to invest in such idea. :D just like in europe and us.

Maybe they (toyota) needs a "flagship" car? ... just like the Civic SiR was a flagship car for Honda.

The 180HP 1.8 liter VVTi engine from the Toyota Celica is a good condidate to upgrade the power for the Corolla. The engine would almost drop-in the engine bay so minimal re-tooling would be required to install those engines into the Corolla Altis body.
