thumbs up to my fellow drivers w/ open foglights or low bright headlights
during daytime,,whatever weather condition,,public road of edsa,c5, public eskinitas, (except subdvsion, ok lang kahit nka off na) etc...
i know rider din kayo...kahit konti lang tayo na nagddrive with DRL.,
naging aware lang ako sa DRL nung maging rider ako..

sa mga riders naman na ino-off yung headlights sa public roads,,
most new motorcycles today walang switch yung headlights,
yung iba pinapalagyan,,they didnt know the importance of DRL..
most new luxury cars din po pala may DRL na..

wala pa yatang thread about DRL so i create this one..
yung kapitbahay kasi namin tinatanong ako kung bakit ko ino- on headlight ng auto at motor ko kahit umaga,,and the rest is history

pati yung mrt nka DRL din

i don't see people turning their lights on (kahit parking lights) pag maliwanag pa.. siguro kung meron man.. eh napaka konti.. wala pa sigurong 1%

i'm not saying we shouldnt.. i'm just saying it's not normal here on our roads to have your lights on pag maliwanag pa..

yung iba nga pumapasok na sa parking building.. wala pa ring ilaw..

para mas visible....I think sa Canada required na ito by law...hinde lang ako sure sa US, but when I was there I've seen cars sa freeway na meron mga DRL, in fact my cousin's car that he lend me is meron ng DRL...

tingin ko dapat dito sa atin magkaroon na rin ng ganyan law, siguro umpisahan sa mga motorcycles

pansinin mo yun mga imported na mga SUVs meron sila, suburban, escalade, sequiao etc

I give extra room to riders who turn on their lights in the morning

Some US states require DRLs sa motorcycles. Yung isang friend ko dun hinuli ng pulis palabas pa lang sya ng garahe dahil napundi headlight nya di nya napansin.

I know a guy who always drives with DRL. Naka-specify kasi sa insurance policy nya, they give slightly lower premiums if you agree to always drive with DRL.

    bihira dito sa pinas.

even i admit hindi ko ginagawa ito pag maliwanag. i only turn on my park lights during the day when it's (already) dark enough for me not to see my guages. kaya sa mga tunnels, parking and kapag makulimlim, umuulan dun lang ako nakaparklights. pag nasa highway din i turn on my park lights.

Problem with DRL's that are standard on some cars is the driver's instruments are always lighted regardless of headlamp function, and so when it gets dark he'll think they're still on when they're not. I've been seeing increased non usage of the headlights at night on cars that usually have DRL's as standard.

DRL's are both good and bad, they're good for safety but when you take them for granted you'll assume the headlights are also on at night. Some features and controls are actually different so in reality you're being a danger by having NO lights at night.

I also think that a lot of people confuse their park lights or even the low-beam lights with daytime running lights.

With your park lights, a peanut bulb in front & your rear lamps are on.

With you low-beam lights, the peanut bulb, low-beam lamp & rear lamps are on.

With daytime running lights, it uses either a park light or a low-watt (around 20W) forward light (and not the low-beam) and there is no rear light on.

Here's the problem with using your park / low-beam lights as a pseudo-DRL:

    1. Your rear lamps stay on... if you don't have a 3rd brake lamp or have a relatively weak taillamp or have an el-cheapo LED taillamp (like the one used in the Corolla) - other drivers will have a hard time distinguishing if you're braking or not.

    2. As mentioned by mbiege, the instrument cluster also gets light. This is no problem if you have an light output adjuster (like in the Rav) or have an optitron gauge - but the vehicles equipped with these are in minority.

    3. You produce unnecessary glare and distraction if you insist on using your low-beam headlamps... that is why other drivers are signaling / flashing you. That's why DRLs have half the output of regular low-beam lamps.

Hopefully this clarifies the confusion with using DRLs since most vehicles being sold here in the Philippines are not equipped with the said feature.

If you still insist on using your park/low-beam lights as a pseudo-DRL device...

i read in C/D that most americans actually hates DRL. for MCs that might be a wise feature. But because in some models, the DRLs are activated with the instrument cluster come night time, owners usually forget turning on the taillights. a lot of them had a rear accident something something getting hit because their butts are not well lit. heheheh

most of the new cars now comes with an optitron gauges, my other car has this type of gauge, so the instrumental panel are always lit..sooner or later people will get used to this kind of gauges....
