SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga- The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Traffic Management Group headed by Supt. Florendo Saligao busted a big vehicle "cannibalizing group" with the arrest yesterday morning of six men who were caught in the act of chopping into pieces a passenger jeep in Purok 13, San Rafael, Mabalacat town.

Sr. Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, CIDG regional chief, said that the swift arrest of the six was part of their "Oplan Clean Sweep" to rid the region of lawless elements , including those engaged in cannibalizing vehicles, a profitable illegal activity of unscrupulous traders.

He said the operation was launched jointly by the CIDG and the TMG in Region 3.

The identities of the suspects were temporarily withheld so as not to derail the ongoing operations of the CIDG.

The cannibalizing or chopping of a carnapped vehicle into pieces then sell it to unsuspecting buyers for lower price is another scheme by carnappers to evade arrest, and is fast becoming a profitable business among carnappers.

Police said that a number of stalls or second-hand spare parts dealers in Apalit town are considered accomplices of some carnappers for helping dispose the cannibalized vehicle parts.

Meanwhile, Eleazar also reported that two video karera and four fruit games were confiscated by his men in barangays Gasac and San Bartolome in Sta. Rita town.

Eleazar said the confiscation of the said items was in line with the "Oplan Roulette" in consonance with the directives of PNP higher Headquarters.
