two thumbs up to the good side of the law!
sad to say but carjacking/carnapping will be with us for a long time as long as there is a public demand for second-hand car parts due to their availability and usually cheaper prices compared to the brand-new OEM parts.
so to discourage would-be carnappers who want to fill the shoes of fallen criminal comrades, let us not buy second-hand parts if we are suspicious that these items are from illegitimate sources. also, let us not patronize second-hand stores that we know sell illegal "chop-chop" parts.
there will be no supplier if there will be no buyer.

July 5th, 2007 12:09 PM #24Suspected carjackers killed in Manila shootout
Three suspected carjackers were killed in an encounter with the police in Tondo district in Manila City before dawn Thursday.
Senior Superintendent Ricardo Layug, chief of the Manila Police District Station 2, said one of the slain suspects has been identified as a certain Alvin who was released from the Manila City Jail two weeks ago.
The radio DZMM report said the bodies of the two other suspects bore tattoos indicating that they are members of "Batang City Jail" and "Commando Gang."
Layug said a team of policemen chanced upon the three suspects trying to forcibly take a Honda Wave motorcycle (ON 8954) from a certain Jose Luisito Olives at the corner of Sta. Elena and Moriones streets in Tondo around 5 a.m.
The three allegedly shot at the policemen, which sparked a firefight. One of the responding policemen was injured and brought to the Chinese General Hospital. The three suspects died at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
Police seized two .38 revolvers and a knife from the suspects.

Suspected carjackers killed in QC
Two suspected carjackers were slain by policemen in an encounter in Quezon City before dawn Monday, ABS-CBN News reported.
Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula, Quezon City Police District director, said the unidentified suspects were members of a carjack syndicate called "Rent-A-Car" Gang, which victimizes rent-a-car firms in Metro Manila. He said gang members sometimes kill car owners who try to resist them.
Gatdula said the suspects were driving a stolen Mitsubishi Adventure when they evaded a police checkpoint on Commonwealth Avenue around 1 a.m. Police shot at the suspects, killing the two.
Police learned that the Mitsubishi Adventure was stolen from a certain Joseph Tejuco of Bulacan province.

I can't help but notice a pattern here.
The claim always is the suspects fired first, police retaliates, ALL suspects killed.
Whether, it's kidnapping (including the victim, patay), robbery, carjacking, carnapping.
Kind of scary. Isn't it.

4 suspected car thieves killed in QC
By Perseus Echeminada
Friday, September 7, 2007
Four suspected car thieves were killed while two others were wounded, including a police officer, when operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the Traffic Management Group (TMG) engaged the suspects in a running gunbattle that started at the Quezon City-San Mateo boundary and ended at the IBP Road in front of the House of Representatives early yesterday morning.
Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula, QCPD director, said the suspects on board a black Toyota Altis, with license plate no. XEJ-943, refused to stop in a police checkpoint near the QC-San Mateo boundary, prompting police operatives to pursue them.
Sensing that they were were being tailed by policemen, the suspects opened fire with pistols, hitting SPO4 Leonido Teczon who was driving the police van. The police returned fire with automatic rifles, hitting the left rear tire of the suspects’ car.
Policemen caught up with the suspects in front of the House of Representatives. One of the suspects was shot in the head as he tried to change the magazine of his .45 caliber pistol, while another one was found slumped at the back seat still clutching a 9 mm pistol.
The two other suspects were brought to the nearby Malvar General Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.
Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad, chief of the TMG who rushed to the crime scene with Gatdula, said the suspects’ car was already monitored passing the IBP Road the other day, apparently scouting for a victim.
Verification at the Land Transportation Office showed that the license plate of the Toyota Altis was assigned to a Toyota Revo.
“We then flashed a general alarm on the vehicle,” he said.
When spotters of the QCPD sighted the car entering Quezon City, a roadblock was set up but instead of stopping the suspects started firing at the lawmen.
Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered a sketch map from one of the slain suspects, which could be an indication that they were about to carry out criminal activities in the city.
Gatdula said organized criminal groups have shifted their activities from night to day time, usually targeting luxury cars and business establishments.
“We are urging the public to immediately report any suspicious looking vehicles roaming in their localities,” Gatdula said.
Palad said the slain suspects have yet to be identified but expressed belief that they were members of a group of car thieves operating in Metro Manila. – With Cecille Suerte Felipe
