good day everyone. this is my first post here in tsikot.com. specifically made an account just for this vitara thread.
to start off, our initial plan was to get a glx variant but due to the limited supply and the uncountable number of instances that makes you think that a unit will be available, we just settled for a gl+. cool white pearl to be precise.
driving the vitara is a dream. i have high praises for this model. the additional features of the glx variant is a welcome change but not to the point that even owning a gl+ will ruin your driving experience.
initial testing returns a mileage of 10-11km/liter on pure city driving. i was able to reach 18.8km/liter, the highest i was able to reach when we went to clark. i felt the engine became more responsive after reaching the 1k mark in the odometer.
tires are grippy in the corners and there is little body roll even when pushed a bit hard in the corners.
don't expect too much out of the 1.6 liter engine in terms of brute speed. if you are a speed junkie, i suggest you look elsewhere.
there is something about the vitara that makes me smile whenever i bring it out for a spin.
my verdict: a very reliable and fun to drive vehicle.
just to add, current trip is 450km++ with still more than 1/4 left on the fuel tank.
reliable? most cars survive 50,000km without any issue.

Thanks for sharing, and welcome to Tsikot!
The Vitara is indeed great value-for-money, especially for those looking for higher ride height. Among the cheap subcompact CUVs (Ecosport, Juke), the Vitara looks the most appealing.
Though I'm curious, since you seem to be looking for a fun to drive vehicle, why didn't you go for something that handles much better, like a Jazz or Civic?

thank you for the warm welcome. this time, we opted for a taller ride height, as one of the deciding factors in choosing the vitara. the jazz and the civic will always be a crowd favorite but having cvt trannies is one thing i did consider.
we are working on a limited budget and the all new vitara just fits nicely. truly, value for money. the interior might be a little "plasticky" but still not a deal breaker.
interior space is decent enough for us. boot space is great.
The CVT on that generation of the Jazz was a bit problematic when not maintained properly. Unfortunately during that time, proper knowledge on its maintenance was not communicated properly.
Newer cars with updated CVTs are much better now. Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and a few are now using CVT as its tranny option for their model lineup.
One reason CVTs were problematic before is because some put ordinary ATF in them and not CVT specific fluids ...
Yes, most people back then just thought of automatics as having the same tranny type and they taught one type of fluid fits all. Also, other reasons include the fact that Honda uses their proprietary fluids for their trannies and that old CVT requires fluid change every 20k KM instead of the usual 40k KM for a traditional AT.
i'm nearing the 500km mark and still not reached the warning light of the vitara. 70-75% pure city 25-30% highway. very good fuel consumption figures.
the best i was able to reach was with my '04 civic es vti mt at 525km but that was mostly highway runs leading to batangas.
cruising at almost 80km/hr, the rpm barely touches the 1.5k rpm mark. maybe around 1.4k in 6th gear.
even my '10 civic 5AT with overdrive while running at 106km/h at 2k rpm never reached this fuel consumption figure. best as per my computation is 12.5km on the highway.
an additional gear and less 200cc of displacement + factor in the power to weight ratio makes all the difference.
thank you suzuki.
final consumption figures after top up.
511.4kms travelled/40.451 liters =12.642km/liter
had to top up already. low fuel indication has not been reached yet.
will log the next consumption if there will be a big difference as i have already reached the 1k mark in the odometer.
