How does the good priced Vitara handle in the city and the long highways ? [B]It would be good to hear of the Vitara's characteristics .. Never mind the interiors (for me) I just want a practical subcompact SUV which is easy to drive & wash, and handles great & safe in rain or shine, bright or dark, short slow & long fast drives. How does it drive ?
The suspension of a subcompact CUV like the Vitara, Ecosport or HRV isn't any more durable than that of a Civic.

I just drove to Tangadan Falls in LU with unpaved roads, and crazy elevation with my Civic and did not have a single scrape. I've also driven the car up to Sagada, Pagudpud, and so on. My previous sedan, an Altis, I've brought to Mt. Pulag and Baler.

My point is, since these softroader CUVs are just based on subcompacts like the Jazz or Fiesta, they're not better off than an ordinary sedan.

Now in terms of the drive, well none of these can ever drive as smoothly and grip as well as a compact sedan.

At the end of the day these subcompact CUVs will sell far more than any compact, primarily because Filipino car buyers love anything with a raised ride height, never mind that they're useless off road and aren't more comfortable than sedans.

If there is one thing that the Vitara GLX has over the similarly-priced Civic E, it's the side airbags.

But I'd agree that the Civic offers much more refinement. The Vitara is meant to compete with the likes of the Ecosport and Juke, and it shows in various areas.

As with any major purchase, you really do have to answer why you're buying a car. I needed something better than my previous Fiesta when I bought my Vitara GL+. Driving-wise the Fiesta was excellent, but my wife often complained about the legroom and ride comfort at the back. She has had no complaints riding at the back of the Vitara, which she says is so much more comfortable. I think the interiors of the Vitara are actually better than the Fiesta. I also didn't want to go over a million pesos, so even though I had financing approval for a little more, I didn't go for something higher up. The purchase was meant for a daily driver with the occasional weekend long drive out of town, so practicality was an important consideration.

I considered two sedans when I was car hunting, the City and the Sylphy. But there's that speed bump at the condo where we live, one that causes bottom scrapes on all sorts of sedans. So I really needed those few extra inches. The short of it is that the Vitara answered all the concerns I had. I'm sure there won't be any regrets when the car you purchase answers why you're buying it.

The Vitara also has paddle shifters, a leather steering wheel, and a moon roof - all of which are lacking in the Civic. It's really the drive and refinement where the Civic sets itself apart.

Very good point on getting the car that suits your needs. People have different priorities in buying cars so what works best for one might not be the optimal choice for someone else.

This is what people should always think of. Get the car that suits your needs, not the car that is popular or the car that your friend/neighbour/relative tells you to buy.

Got to see the new Vitara on MIAS. On display was the TOTL GLX Variant. Busog sa features and yet magically they can price it only a little above 1M.

I have one rant though. Interior looks/feels cheap.

What phones did you try? When I tried attaching an old Note 3 to the head unit, I noticed that the phone configured itself before working. There was no SIM attached to the phone, so there might be some software that has to be present and configured on the phone before MirrorLink works.

I tried my Google Pixel then my Lenovo then my Elephone.

Do I need to download an app on my phone to make it work?

It's likely that none of your phones support MirrorLink. This link mentions that the Pixel doesn't support MirrorLink.

I have the SD card for the offline navigation. It was one of the freebies that the sales agent and I discussed during purchase, and my SA delivered on that promise. I think you should try to speak to your agent to see if you can get one, though I've read that dealers don't have stocks while some are charging for the SD card.

I'm not sure whether the SD card can be copied. It's an iNav-badged card, and I've read somewhere that there are protections to prevent the navigation app on the headunit from reading a generic card. I don't know how true that is, though, as I haven't gotten around to copying the data to a generic card.

please check if you can copy. i was able to copy the SD card in my garmin before. hope it works the same way.

i also asked my SA for the SD card but according to them, it has been out of stock since the launch of the new Vitara.

    thanks.

does anyone know or have the spec sheet of the GL A/T? I've seen a display and these are the differences from the GL+ that I noticed:

Manual ignition (no push button start)
    Manual aircon
Wheels are steel rims with hubcaps
    No clock on the dash
    No cruise control
Black door handles and side mirrors
No turn signals on the side mirrors
No center arm rest in the back seat
    No roof rails
    No foglamps
    Donut spare tire
Touch screen HU but not Android (i think)

I didn't notice though kung meron o wala mga 'to:

    Rear wiper
    Rear defogger
    Rear 12V socket
    Rear disc brakes

    Price diff is 75k (913k vs 988k)
