Overdrive ON ang mas tipid. Can you imagine driving your car in NLEX at 100 km/h using 3rd gear only? Your RPM will be very high and car will consume more fuel.

Just set Overdrive to ON and forget about it.
dont know kung tama itong info pero di ko naman ginagawa kasi di naman confirmed na effective. pag heavy traffic OFF daw ang overdrive or lagay sa 2. pag light traffic at may instance na lalagpas ng 50kph, ON daw overdrive. payo sakin nung nag dedeliver ng suzuki cars from planta to casa.

Tama yan paps. That's how all overdrives work.

I only ever switch overdrive off kapag mahabang decline, to slow down from engine break. Nababagalan kase ako sa 2 eh, so off na lang overdrive para 3rd gear lng sya.

Hindi mo na need gawin yan bro kasi if stuck ka sa traffic, matic naman na pipiliin ng A/T mo ang 1st at 2nd gears. There is no reason for it to select 3rd or 4th gear dahil mabagal ang takbo mo. ON or OFF man ang Overdrive does not matter so just keep it to ON.

The only time you will need to set the Overdrive to OFF is when the A/T keeps shifting to 3rd and 4th gears alternately during uphill/downhill scenario. Kumbaga pansin mong nalilito ung A/T which gear to use. In this case, set Overdrive to OFF para mag-stick na lang siya sa 3rd gear. Pag patag na yung road, set Overdrive back to ON.

Okay. Noob driver question. I'm almost at 1k on my odo and have never set my overdrive to ON. Planning to break in the car (finally) this long weekend, trip to Subic. Sa expressway ko lang ba i-o-on yung overdrive? Or i-on ko na lang parati, kahit habang nasa city traffic pa?

Overdrive should be ON at all times (as already explained above) except when you want to stick to 3rd gear during uphill/downhill scenarios or for engine braking. Hope this is already clear.

overdrive means the transmission will have the option to select the highest gear (in our case the 4th). as per red_one's advice, wag nalang i-off kung patag naman ang dadaanan. btw ito yung button doon sa gilid ng shift knob.

dati in-off ko sya pag gusto kong mag downshift para umovertake vs. shifting to 2nd gear or 2 (baka masira gearbox). pero na realized ko naman na pwede pala floor nalang accelerator, kusa na mag downshift. may millisecond delay vs. turning off the overdrive pero sanayan lang din naman. subukan mo paglaruan sa sctex bro para malaman mo difference ng bawat isa dyan sa mga sinabi ko, but do not forget to drive carefully ;)

    Ang tawag dyan ay "Kick-down".

    Kick-down / How to overtake?

When driving an automatic, if you need to suddenly accelerate more quickly, for example when overtaking another vehicle, you can use the kick-down device. This feature allows you to over-ride the automatic selection of gears and forces the transmission to stay in lower gears for longer. This gives you a higher degree of acceleration than normal.

To activate kick-down you simply press down hard on the accelerator pedal and keep it fully pressed down until you reach your desired speed. When you reach this speed, ease back off the accelerator and the car will automatically return to normal drive and select the most appropriate gear.
