wet shocks are a sign of impending shock death.
rusting shocks, can be something, or can be nothing to worry about. as long as they work, that's fine with me.
rear shocks are usually cheaper, as their design is generic (one design fits many). less than 1K, last time i bought, a few years ago. much easier to install than fronts.
front shocks are specialized for the car model, are more complicated a design, and therefore cost much more than rear shocks. 2-3K thereabouts ang natatandaan ko. they're also a pain to install. i never tried to DIY it, as i have no specialized tools.

the most common manifestation of perished shocks, is the car bobbing up and down several times, when it rolls over a hump.
another common sign, is extremely hard shocks, as in, frozen.
