Hi tsikoters,
when should i replace the shock absorbers? what would be the symptoms, assuming that there is no leaking on its hydraulics.
thanks in advance.

you need to replace your shocks when:
a. it takes a longer distance for you to stop.
b. when you hit the brake, the vehicle nose-dives (in case of front shocks)
c. you may notice some vibrations on your steering wheel (in case of front shocks)
d. car veers or slides when braking
e. the car rocks, or in other words, matagtag in uneven roads, bumps
f. you observe uneven tire wear (although this is also related to incorrect camber)
how to check?
a. physical check.... meron bang leaks or wet spots sa stem ng shocks?
b. Push down hard on each corner of a vehicle. If the car continues to bounce after you let go, sira na ang shocks.

Salamat..
below are true: on my car.
c. you may notice some vibrations on your steering wheel (in case of front shocks)
e. the car rocks, or in other words, matagtag in uneven roads, bumps
b. Push down hard on each corner of a vehicle. If the car continues to bounce after you let go, sira na ang shocks. ---- same yata to kung merong sasakay or kung aalugin mo yung car, ang daling maalug.

most of the time dampeners lang kailangan i replace unless damay na rin yung springs and it's rusted out.
OT
nasa magkano (labor only) ang damage for shock replacement?
any mechanic can do it?
ok ba sa zafra motors?
Nasa magkano ang shocks ng sasakyan?subcompact sedan for example. Matagtag na din yung takbo ng akin pag lubak, nagpachange oil ako neto and napansin ko kinakalawang na na yung shock sa likod yung isa is nagpapawis(sinabi sa kin nung mechanic na leak nga yun pero hindi gaano), i dunno if effect din ng paliting shocks na yung pag lubak and medyo matulin, sobra kalabugan ng gulong?![]()
wet shocks are a sign of impending shock death.
rusting shocks, can be something, or can be nothing to worry about. as long as they work, that's fine with me.
rear shocks are usually cheaper, as their design is generic (one design fits many). less than 1K, last time i bought, a few years ago. much easier to install than fronts.
front shocks are specialized for the car model, are more complicated a design, and therefore cost much more than rear shocks. 2-3K thereabouts ang natatandaan ko. they're also a pain to install. i never tried to DIY it, as i have no specialized tools.
the most common manifestation of perished shocks, is the car bobbing up and down several times, when it rolls over a hump.
another common sign, is extremely hard shocks, as in, frozen.
