i just saw my car manual it says replace those fluids 40k kms or 2 yrs whichever comes first.

do you have your brake & power steering fluid replaced? ano effects kung pabayaan mo lang?

    i do. every 40k kms.
if you really dont replace it, contaminants are put into the braking and steering system which may damage components.

yes, especially your brake fluid. sludge will tend to build up (just look at the brake fluid reservoir under the hood). this will cause your brake lines to clog up, which will decrease your braking efficiency.

Ideally, but sometimes I'm too lazy to get around to doing it. I'll usually just have it done when another item being serviced.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic/hygroscopic. It will attract water as previously mentioned. Also the reason why you should buy spare brake fluid in small sealed containers and not in bulk.

PS fluid depends on your car. Most vehicles will accept ATF. I use DexIII on most applications (Castrol 'Protector' series ATF). I also have Shell ATF here (Allison rating).

For brake fluid, Motul is said to be good. But for a daily driver, anything DOT3 or 4 is good enough.

how to drain and replace p/s fluid? medyo darkened na though wala pa namang leak or problema. how true na yung nasa reservoir lang (daw) ang mapapalitan since off ang engine. di daw pwede paandaring ang engine ng walang p/s fluid.

pati ung mga nasa pump and sttering gearbox puedeng matanggal.

    1) jackup the front two wheels off the ground.
    2) disconect the:
    a) pipe between the reservoir and the pump
    b) pipe between the steering gearbox and the reservoir.
    3) turn the wheel fully to left and right many times until no fluid is left droppping
    4) Now, bring the front wheels down.
    5) Re-connect the pipes.
    6) Replenish required ATF. Allow ATF to settle down before adding again.
    7) Start engine.
    8) Replenish as necessary.

Note: starting the engine without ATF can damage the pump and inside componenets of he PS gearbox.

DOT 3 should do fine... be wary that some high temp/high performance (DOT 4, RBF 600, DOT 5) brake fluids may be more hydroscopic than the DOT3s.

question on ATF. Okay ba yung mga gawa ng Caltex at Petron na ATF for power steering fluid flushing / replacement?
My suking auto supply has only Castrol motor oils and not Dextron III.
They offer me one from Caltex, Petron and Whiz (from US and Dextron na daw)
    Tnx

do you replace brake & p/s fluid?
