Has anyone heard of tire inflation and repair kits that allow you to do away with spare tires altogether?

Any first hand feedback? Do they really work? Where can i find them locally?

Would you consider completely foregoing your spare if you had one (or two) of these?

Yes, they go by different names (e.g. Extended Mobility Kit).

It's basically a can of tire sealer and an air compressor.

I have the air compressor in my car (those el cheapo stuff from blade but has served me for years). Haven't gotten around to buying a tire sealer yet (less than Php500.00 at most mall auto accessory outlets).

The compressor alone has allowed me to drive the vehicle to a vulcanizing shop negating the need to use the spare.

But these kits won't work with a ripped tire unlike a real life spare.

Same reason why some off-road vehicles have the option of carrying dual spare tires (e.g. Land Rover Defender and most Toyota Land Cruiser models including the latest one).

*otep -- thanks for the feedback. Can you use those generic sealants with generic compressors? I was considering shipping the continental mobility kit plus a few extra canisters from the US.. Now it sounds i can save loads by "making my own". TIA

The tire sealant will actually inflate the tire already (the popular brand name is Fix-a-flat).

I do have the compressor because most of the time, I do not need to permanently seal the tire. I just need to make it to the vulcanizing shop.

I will look into fix a flat. Banawe? I plan to just carry this around rather than a spare. Safe enough for 99% of flat scenarios? Im running run flats now, but find them very hard and want to change to normal performance tires but dont want to start carrying a spare (in the interest of space).

Thoughts and advise on the matter would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Fix-a-flat (and other brands of the same type) are sold in SM hardware stores. Pretty easy to see. They're the only spray cans with a hose and a valve stem adapter on the end.
