    Hi!

Just noticed that the lower-spec models of nearly all cars in the market today have rear drum brakes; this is inferior to disc brakes, ryt? Just wondering why they insist on drums; mas mura ba, production-wise?

mas mura ang brake drums pre. kaya mga low end cars naka brake drums sa rear. its sufficient naman for stopping support given the stock weight and engine ng mga oto na meron non.

Yup , mura ang drum brakes in terms of replacement parts at maintenance .... giving the stopping power sa power that comes with the car, kaya ito even though front lang ang disc .

Mas mura ang drums to manufacture and pretty simple to service din.

Most of the stopping power is provided via the front brakes naman.

They are inferior only in terms of stopping power. But drum brakes are also less prone to leaks and to siezing (due to their enclosed design).

the rear brakes only provide about 5% or 10% to the overall braking ability of the vehicle... the lion's share of the job is on the front brakes, so econocars can get away with rear drums with little loss in function

I think the rear brakes do more than just 10%...

if u want a brake upgrade,, as in stopping power from high speed, upgrade your front discs first. saka na yung rear drums, ginagamit mo lang naman yan pag pumaparada (at kung mahilig kang magpaikot ng oto hehe).

....ok naman din ang stopping power ng drums eh. sa corolla cup nga nun sa BRC rear drums pa rin gamit, and those cars were driven the way that you will never be able to drive or abuse yours.

....mas sporty nga lang talaga tignan rear discs.

iba talaga pag all disk brakes ka...

medyo mabagal ang response ng drums... although not noticeable pag ordinary driving, pero pag emergency situations, you'll swear by it...

    disc brake advantages
    1. easy to maintain
    2. cools immediately
    3. good in wet condition compare to drums

Pareho kelangan patuyuin, but the drums need more time to get dry than the discs.

And speaking of drum brakes, what do they mean by Rear: drum brakes (leading and trailing)?
