mitsu galant cv joint & lower suspension arm querry
to the master tsikoteers out there:

nobody is answering my querry at the mitsubishi car talk so i posted this here. i originally posted this message there 11 days ago:

i need ur help! by the way, i'm a newbie here, but i love to read the threads in this site. i'm glad that i discovered this.

i have a problem w/ my ride, 1997 mitsu galant super saloon. just about a month ago, my car were having unpleasant sounds, pag tumatama sa rough road may tumotonog na knocking sound (tok sound), & pag lumiliko, may ibang knocking sounds na mas maingay (tok3X sounds). Pinaayos ko sa mechanic - his findings - damaged outer cv joint & lower suspension arm. i instructed him to clean it up & put some grease on it, then ibalik na muna para magamit ko yong car, tapos ibabalik ko na lang sa kanya pag nakabili na ko ng parts.

my mechanic told me that those parts need to be replaced ASAP. pero after he fixed it yesterday, nawala na yong knocking sound (tok3X sounds) pag lumiliko, ang natira na lang yong tok sound pag tumatama sa rough road. nag-canvass na ko ng prices ng lower suspension arm & cv joint, unfortunately, as of now, i'm on a tight budget. so, i'm planning to buy those parts sa may, 2011 na sana pagdating ng mid-year bonus. my question is, is it safe to drive my car until may of this year?

short distances lang naman ang trips ko, usually mga 1 km to 6 kms per trip, city driving lang & pag nag-a-outing lang to beach, mga 14 kms yong one way, yon na halos ang pnakamalayong trip e. kanina, i drove it to the beach, 14 kms back & forth, so about 38 kms. sakay ko si mrs., 2 daughters & 2 yayas tapos may mga dalang baon. so far, ok naman ang ride nya except yong "tok" sound nga pag tumatama sa rough road.

what's your opinion about this guys? safe pa ba i-drive yong car ko? wala bang tendency na kumalas yong outer cv joints &/or lower suspension arms?

The knocking sounds only went away because the mechanic greased the parts.

You still need to replace them asap. If the lower arm or cv joint gives out while you are on the road, it will just add the expense of towing your car to the auto-shop plus whatever fine you will have to pay if the MMDA is the one who tows your car.

experience is the best teacher talaga. i was not yet able to replace my lower arm and cv joint, so, my car broke yesterday. this woud serve as a warning to those who are similarly situated and experiencing knocking sounds/kalampag. you shoulD have it checked by a good mechanic and have those parts be replaced ASAP if necessary. if you don't have enough budget to buy those parts, hwag nyo na munang gamitin ang car nyo specially for long trips.

nag-out of town pa naman kami ng friends ko nong tuesday, we travelled about 54 kilometers back and forth and our maximum speed was about 100 kms/hr. buti na lang nakisama naman ang car ko and it just broke down yesterday (thursday) sa office ko lang. :bond: sabi ko nga, pano kaya kung sa highway yon nangyari and we're travelling at about 80-100 kms/hr.? :death::littleangel:

^ tumangal ang bolt sa thread ng lower suspension arm (straight) which is connected to the lower suspension arm (curve). my car is in my mechanic's shop right now and he recommend to replce the following parts, which i'm about to purchase:

    1. outer cv joints
    2. lower suspension arms (straight)
    3. lower suspension arms (curve), and
    4. rack end

cv joint & lower suspension arm safety
