Happened also to my wife's 97 Galant. Vibrating brake pedals and steering wheel when brakes were applied. Some Pinoy mechanic from Mits suggested to change to original brake pads. Nothing happened even with original brake pads. Culprit.......lose thread na turnilyo sa brake caliper.

To the thread starter, solved na ba yung problem??? kinda give the rest an update please...

btw, kung hndi mo pa nahahanapan ng solution, I suggest to jack the car up, take off the wheels and go check the brake pads... Very less na nasa rotors yung problem ng knocking sound... Your pads have probably caught some rocks that got stuck between the pads and the rotor... that happened on my Infiniti G20 before... GL

also, kapag nagwi-weiggle yung steering wheel while braking, maaring hndi rin rotors yon, it could be the uneven distribution of the pads...

wiggle while braking is probably the rotors fault.

The old pads are still thick but I decided to change my brake pads as advised by my mechanic.

    Thanks!

^^ maybe because you replaced the pads kaya mukhang lumakas, rotor refacing alone will not really give you any "noticeable" increase in braking power.

ganun ba, kasi yung old pads ko makapal pa eh. Kaso gusto kasi nung mechanic ko palitan ng brake pads. Anyway, naitanong ko lang naman atleast lumakas ang brake ko sa pakiramdam hehehe.

Parang ang hina kasi ng preno ng exalta sta eh.

warped ba rotors mo? baka nung na-reface mas maganda na contact between your rotor and your pads

A refaced or new rotor would increase surface contact with the pads as against a rotor with groves in it, thus increasing braking power. Did some of you even consider to just clean the brake system to solve the "tok" sound when braking? Refacing would not solve this problem, it would only seem to solve it because during the process the caliper would have to be remove.clean in order to facilitate the removal of the rotors. 18,000 for 2 new rotors? Grabe naman and this is just for a Liteace. Not to belittle the Liteace but in comparison for a Nissan Safari, with a much bigger rotor disc, you can get it for 5k each. For a Mercedes-Benz W124 5k for the front and rear rotor disc and 2k for all pads. These are all made in Germany. Personally I wouldn't go for refacing, brakes po ito and I won't compromise when it comes to the brake system.

refacing is allright imo if the rotor has not reached the minimum thickness. if it has, then definitely replace the rotor na.

I agree with you Migs. But there are run of the mill machine shops that would tell propective customers "puwede pa yan" wihtout even looking if the disc is at its minimum thickness.

How thick is the minimum thickness of brake rotors?

yeah... those guys suck... meron pa ibang machine shops that di pa pantay pagkaresurface. you'd thing it would be easy enough to run a lathe pero apparently it's not. hehe!

minimum thickness depends on the car.

There are refacing machines made specifically for rotor refacing. 2 side refacing sya simultaneously para pantay talaga. I had my Patrol's rotors refaced using this machine at Servitek. Ayos naman kinalabasan.

sir yun knocking sound galing sa likod yan try mo apply yun handbrake mawala yun 2nog nyan pag apak mo sa brake. try niyo pa adjust yun brake shoe niyo dahil baka malayo na ang adjustment. kung kia yun auto niyo try niyo muna canvass ng bago before niyo pa-reface....

if you have your rotors refaced, do you really need to replace your brake pads or you can easily readjust it to the new thickness of the disc rotors?

usually pag nag reface ka ng rotor palit ka na ng bagong brake pads ... kasi kaya nga nasira yung rotor disc mo kasi ndi pantay ang kain ng brake pads mo ... or pudpod na yung rotor disc mo puro gatla .....or gasgas ....

so i do recommend it and don't adjust it

^^^^OK, if that is the case then I really need to replace them. So how do you know what is the type of brake pad that is installed on your car? Is there any mark or any brand will do?

BTW if I just opt to replace my rotor discs how much will it cost me then, any idea where can I get one and are they all the same and just simply differ in sizes?

i usually recommed ferodo or bendix ... i think they are cheap and best in the market ...

i don't know what car you drive ... but usually car brake pads ranges to 450 - 800 pag datings sa ganitong brand ...

yung rotor disc naman also depends on what car ... but if yung parang corolla lang yan mga 750 lang corolla big body ... but estimate around 750 - 1200 pag car rotor disc ...
