I've been experiencing some sliding of my front tires on wet asphalt roads & on the newly painted driveway of our office garage. The steering also is noticeably lighter.

The small grooves have almost disappeared already.

Am thinking of swapping it for the meantime (though I'll be buying new ones next month) with my back tires. Would I still experience the above mentioned symptoms if i place those in the back (am driving an AWD Rav4)?

Here's a shot of my back tires, notice that the small grooves are still intact:

Try swapping. The turning wheels wear out more, that's why manufacturers recommend tire rotation.

Swap mo na, but if dumudulas pa, palitan mo na tires mo, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Suggest rotating your tires and slightly reduce cold tire pressure to about 27 PSI to all of them. The tread wear seems greater toward the center suggesting some slight overinflation of the tires. Moreover, ride comfort would improve. Our 2000 RAV4 tires have gone 40,000 km and the tread wear was even in both front and rear using the above tire pressure. Handling would slightly become heavier. After driving for about 30 minutes, tire pressure rose to 30-30.5 PSI. Hope this helps.

Generally when replacing tires, replace the rear ones first, rear tires should have better tread, this reduces risk of skidding or spinning, esp on wet roads. (Applies primarily to front wheel drive cars)

i agree..pag front tires ang pumutok, minimal na control mo niyan..

    mazdamazda,

mukha ngang ok pa tires mo, i base it on the elevated marker though,i would rotate the ones on the rear (kung mas makapal sa rear). pero like what was said before, call mo yan ;)

    Pare pwede pa yan...

Pag pantay na yung wear indicator mo sa surrounding thread, palitan mo na.

Sometimes may mga tire models na di maganda "tumanda", if their thread patterns aren't that tolerant sa thread depth reduction usually lumalaki difference sa performance... Yung 1st gen na Aquathreads dati ganun...

Just in case you decide to change your tires, I suggest that you take a look at Goodyear Fortera tires designed for luxury SUVs. The tire sidewall of one of our Bridgestone Dueler H/T 687 235/60 R16 got punctured by a jutting steel bar, hence we changed all 4 tires to 215/70 R16 Goodyear Fortera tires. The ride comfort and quietness improved markedly and during floods, the tires gripped much better. I looked over Consumer Reports and they ranked it 1st in dry and wet braking, handling, and reduced hydroplaning. Because of this, we have decided not to pursue our reservation for the Fortuner, believing that we don't need 7 passenger loading, but reasonable ride comfort, quietness and handling.

Usually, yung life ng tyres ma-determine dun sa tread-wear rating, which is most of the time indicated dun sa sidewall ng tyres. If I remember correctly, dalawa ang tread-wear rating: 100 at 200 (tyre dealers/experts: please correct me if I am wrong). Naturally, yung 200 ang tread-wear rating mas tatagal kaysa sa 100 lang ang rating. Ang alam ko, yung 100 na tread-wear rating eh 30-35T kms. ang normal life (tyre dealers/experts: again, please correct me if I'm wrong on this).

So, if I base my two-cents on this small bit of information I know, then probably your tyres need to be replaced. Then again, I could be wrong.

Goodyear Forteras yung gamit ko and the treadwear rating is 400. Yung temperature rating and traction rating are both A.
