I've been experiencing some sliding of my front tires on wet asphalt roads & on the newly painted driveway of our office garage. The steering also is noticeably lighter.
The small grooves have almost disappeared already.
Am thinking of swapping it for the meantime (though I'll be buying new ones next month) with my back tires. Would I still experience the above mentioned symptoms if i place those in the back (am driving an AWD Rav4)?
Here's a shot of my back tires, notice that the small grooves are still intact:

Try swapping. The turning wheels wear out more, that's why manufacturers recommend tire rotation.

June 11th, 2005 06:45 PM #8Suggest rotating your tires and slightly reduce cold tire pressure to about 27 PSI to all of them. The tread wear seems greater toward the center suggesting some slight overinflation of the tires. Moreover, ride comfort would improve. Our 2000 RAV4 tires have gone 40,000 km and the tread wear was even in both front and rear using the above tire pressure. Handling would slightly become heavier. After driving for about 30 minutes, tire pressure rose to 30-30.5 PSI. Hope this helps.
