One thing worth mentioning is that if you go for the really bigger tires, they can throw off the speedometer. I'm concerned too because I want to replace the 16" tires of my 06 Sonata with 20" low profiles.

I do need more grip, that 3.3L V6 is making me spin the front tires way too often.

I might. The trade off nga lang ay mabilis ma-pudpod lalo na dito sa desyerto. Umaabot ng 52C kapag summer. Halos malapit nang matunaw ang mga goma. Yung sa Laser ko nga, 6 na buwan lang pudpod na (medyo kasalanan ko din, e. Di ako makaayaw kapag may mga V8 o Sti/Evo na gustong mangarera).

I'd much prefer to go for broader grip coverage, hence bigger low-profiles. Plus like boyscout said, the pogi factor plays a big part too. I'll take a picture of the Sonata with 20 inchers at the dealership where I got my Sonata from.

All you have to do is upgrade to a tire with a similar diameter to the stock tires. Maybe 20's are too much, here are some 19's, 18's and 17's with similar diameters.
standard tires:
215/60R16 = 26.16 inches
17's
225/50R17 = 25.86 inches (standard on high end Sonatas)
18's
225/45R18 = 25.97 inches
235/45R18 = 26.3 inches
19's...
225/40R19 = 26.09 inches
245/35R19 = 25.75 inches

That was my first thought as well. But, the 06 Sonata has so much room in the wheel wells that my 16" tires would leave too much of a gap even if the car was lowered to the lowest point. Personally, I think the 06 Sonata was designed for 17" or 18" tires as standard.

While driving one day, I was supposedly during 55 mph. But, the readout from a police radar checkpoint showed only 53 mph. My wife chose the smaller tires because they gave the most comfortable ride. But, their cornering grip isn't really ideal (I found that out while tailing an SVT Focus).

But you're right about the basics. I'd need 20" rims with low-profiles to match the diameter of 17" tires.

Sarap nga sana..... I just had a thought....Hmmm. If I got bigger tires which will improve the driveability of the 06 Sonata, my wife might start driving it more. Then I'll be stuck with the old Ford Contour.... Kailangang pagisipan ko nga muna.....

Add: Masarap i-drive yung Contour because of its sports suspension. Wala nga lang torque dahil sa maliit na V6.

you want the best of both worlds? invest ka na rin sa lighter wheels if you're getting wider tires. bawi yung gain mo sa weight ng tires, and you'll have better grip, handling and of course looks.

amf, PLUS 4 na yung 20" ah.

When upgrading wheel/tires, you should use your STOCK wheel/tire as a reference.

kung ang STOCK tires mo is 205/65-16:
your 20" wheel should have a tire of 225/35-20 so your speedometer is only OFF by 1.1% (speedometer 60mph, but your real speed is 59.3mph)

kung STOCK tires mo naman is 225/60-16:
your 20" wheel should have a tire of 235/35-20 so your speedometer is only OFF by 0.6% too fast. (speedometer reads 60 but your real speed is 59.7mp)

Kung tama ang PLUS SIZING na ginamit mo, you shouldnt have to worry too much.
