followup dun sa last poll regarding the use of your car horn.

this time, with regards to your handbrake.

for me, i use my handbrake most of the time. when i park the car (whether for the day or temporary lang). on stoplights that just turned red or on non-moving traffic. basta whenever i put my car in neutral, automatic na naka-handbrake na ako.

how about you guys?

What hand brake?

(We have a foot activated E-brake instead, and I use it every time I park and shut off the engine.)

Hey I know that! Typical in MB. To release that you simply pull a small lever at the lower left side (for LHD) of the dash right?

I rip that lever whenever my car is at a stop, even if it's just for a few secs.

Most importantly for parking. I still see some friends who put their stick into gear instead of the e-brake whenever they park because they feel more secure especially on inclines or downhill position.

Truth is, it's an effective way to damage your tranny/gears. Not good

I use the handbrake on park, nakasanayan ko na ito. Also on heavy traffic, like most others.

always. especially when parking on steep inclines. Pansin ko nga tumataas ng tumataas yung hand brake lever at kailangan ng ma adjust muli...

Only sometimes, when I'm stopped on inclines and have to look for toll / parking money / parking ticket / whatever. Most of the times, when I'm on an incline, I'm on the footbrake, mostly... handbrake only when the traffic starts moving and I don't want to "jackrabbit" too much setting off in first.

And I only use it when parking on a slope. If the parking space is relatively level, I usually just park it, or place it in 1st gear. I do a lot of long distance, high speed driving, and my brakes are very hot by the time I get home (despite taking it easy when near the house, the fronts are burning hot for a while afterwards... which explains why my old lug nuts cracked when dogs peed on them.), so I don't like using the handbrake, for fear of warping/cooking the rears.

Yeah, the lever tends to get looser and higher the more you use it. That's why I tend not to rely on it.

buti pa sa pinas... ginagamit ang handbrake / footbrake.

sa tate, never ko pa ata nakitang ginamit ng mga officemate ko or mga kilala ko don.

which then leads to accidents like that incident when I was parked in a lot in CA and a car just rolled from one end of the parking lot to our end and hit the van we were in. I had my foot out of the door with the door open and it hit the front / left portion of the van just missing the door (and my foot)... that was sure a close call.

apparently the driver didn't use the handbrake and probably didn't even shift it into gear either.

everytime i stop the car (stoplight, non-moving traffic, etc), for me a way of preventing accident, lalo na kung tired na paa natin sa kakalakad.

as i voted. most of the time if not always - depending on stop light
duration. - sayang ang batt and life span ng brake light.

parking? first gear only on level ground; with handbrake on unleveled surface.
