kamotecue,
disc brakes are open brake systems where you can see the friction materials and the braking surface. drum brakes on the other hand is an enclosed system that requires the brake drum removal for inspetion. over the years when traffic gets worse every year requiring shorter stopping distances, prompted for a more effective yet faster reaction brake systems. the advantages of disc brakes are:
a: shorter stopping distances
b: ease of inspection and servicing
c: dries quicker when driven across flooded streets
d: never needs adjustment nor adjustment mechanisms that gets stuck
e: less chances of leaks
f: less chances of water intrusion
g: never requires dust cleaning compared to drum brakes
jick
Disc brakes are generally considered superior to drum brakes for several reasons. First, they dissipate heat better (brakes work by converting motion energy to heat energy). Under severe usage, such as repeated hard stops or riding the brakes down a long incline, disc brakes take longer to lose effectiveness (a condition known as brake fade). Disc brakes also perform better in wet weather, because centrifugal force tends to fling water off the brake disc and keep it dry, whereas drum brakes will collect some water on the inside surface where the brake shoes contact the drums.

I am sure Drum Brakes have its advantages as well coz it is still being used for heavy duty applications such as on trucks and buses.
Hmmm. Ah ok. That is good to hear.
Kailan kaya makakarating dito yang mga disc brakes for Trucks and Buses.
On another note, hindi ko ma-imagine how they implement a disc brake to a double-tire connected to a drive train.
