    good day.

is it normal for a brake not to function if suddenly the engine shuts off while moving?

    Hi,

My suggestion is have the brake servo / hydrovac unit checked. This is the part that helps boost the braking system vacuum. Generally dapat pag namatay ang engine may natitira pang vacuum sa servo unit enough to assist your braking for about a few more stops, so I guess in your case hindi ganun ang nangyari.

A way of testing it is before starting the car, pump the brake pedal 10-15 times until tumigas or mawala yung vacuum, then while stepping on the brakes, start the car. The brake pedal should dip by the time the car fires up. If it doesn't, baka bibigay na yung unit.

Anyway, can't really guarantee na that's the problem, so mabuti pa-diagnose mo nalang rin ng maigi.

IMO that is normal. Nawawala kasi function nung brake master if off ang sasakyan mo. If under flat surface ay ok naman yung braking mo, then it is just normal what you just experienced IMO. Just don't buy cheap brake pads, make sure to buy good ones designe for your ride. Bosch, bendix, ferodo are good replacement brakes and may high end ones pa. OEM is always a sfae choice when it comes to brakes.

Yup, that is normal as above-mentioned. The brake master requires vacuum assist from the engine to function properly; there should have been enough vacuum assist though for the brakes to bite at least once when the engine shut off though.

Tama yung ginawa mo to use the emergency brakes in that situation.

what's your car bro? is it disc at front and drums at rear? or disc in all 4?

the brake booster only helps the driver boost his/her effort in braking, i.e. lessen the effort exerted by the driver in braking. The master cylinder supplies the pressure, with the brake fluid of course...with vacuum assist or not you should still be able to stop the vehicle. obviously, you need much effort when the engine is off than on. it is normal for the effort to increase but if you cannot stop without the booster operating is abnormal esp on level roads.

now let's take a look on drum brakes. when in reverse, the tendency of the drum is to rotate the leading shoe clockwise moving it away from the drum while the trailing shoe will also rotate clockwise but will move toward the drum. therefore, braking while in reverse is diminished than when moving forward due to the inherent characteristics of these drum brakes.....well, haven't heard of any technology on drum brakes that prevents this.

normal lang yan, meron parang vacuum yan eh so pag patay engine hinde gumagana titigas talaga yun brake. try mo naka park ka off ang engine then tapakan mo preno titigas yun pedal

brake not functioning
