Hi, I have a problem with my SUV - the car brake/rear lights are not switching off if I turn off the car. However, I found this stuff (see attached image) on the driver seat floor:

Is this the brake switch that is causing the problem? If yes, how much is the estimated cost of this item? How long will the repair usually take? Will it be safe to just bring my car to a non-casa shop to repair/replace/connect it?

    Thanks!

well, i can't see the image. but based on your narration, my main and only suspect is the brake light switch. if you are handy with your hands, your only investment will be a dirty back and arms, and the replacement part.
but if you bring the car to the spare parts store, you can ask the tambay mechanics there to do it for you.... they will remove the switch and install the new one. it's easy but dirty. you might be able to get away with a 200 keso mechanic's fee. the part's cost? i don't know. but it's not a hi tech item, and should not cost more than a couple of hundred.., unless your car is a rolls..

That's certainly used to be part of the brake light switch. Good news is, it doesn't cost much to replace. Use a quality replacement if OEM is not available and make sure it is adjusted properly. A/T vehicles in particular rely on this switch to allow you to shift out of Park.

if i remember correctly that costs below P100 from the casa. it's easy enough to install that yourself although it would require you to crawl beneath the underside of your dashboard (where the foot pedals are) as mentioned above

that part is the bumper that pushes the brake light switch off when the brake pedal is released. if the car is around 5 years old, this becomes brittle and breaks apart. i used to replace this with the tip of the front strap of your cheap tsinelas

the brake light switch button is located high up behind the brake pedal. It switches on when you step on the brake pedal and switches off when you release the pedal (the brake pedal shaft pushes the switch button thus putting off the brakelight). You just have to remember the adjustment before you replace it. There are lots of quality replacement brake switch in the market.....

Thanks for all the replies! It's fixed now. Honda charged me for around 200 bucks (parts and labor).
