I used my 10th gen today (2010 Altis 1.6G) and noticed that both the ABS and Handbrake light stayed on even while I was driving. The last time I used this car was in February for my fat lab's check up, it was working perfectly. I still drove the car for 1 km and went home because I don't feel good about driving it a braking issue. I hope it's nothing serious.

Should I have the casa pick up my car na and does anyone have an idea how much this will cost me? Or can anyone recommend a reputable shop to work on this? I'm afraid lang it's not safe to drive anymore. I plan to keep this car for as long as I can since I want to have a manual pa rin.

Have the fault code read via Techstream. It could be as simple as the eBrake switch. Once had the ABS light on w/ extracted code C1249(open circuit brake light switch). Removed, cleaned & reattached the tiny switch behind the pedal. Cleared the code, used the car, reread the system....no codes, no ABS light.

It could be that it hasn't been used in a long time.

Did you notice anything different with the brakes?

I really seldom use this car, it's normal for me not to use it for months at a time but it's the first time this happened. The car feels normal to drive naman but I decided to go home na lang kasi baka bigla mag fail brakes

I was told by 2 car guy friends to have brake level fluid checked first. Pero kung nagbabawas fluid then there must be a problem. I messaged casa na to pick up my car but I won't have anything done until I get feedback from Tsikoteers

Naku. Yung simpleng pag scan palang sa iba gamit ng obd, eh nasa magkano na...

Malamang dinaga na pala yan sa tagal.

First, check the brake fluid level ... can be done with a flashlight ... if that's ok ... then a possibility is the ABS wiring ... something could have chewed the wires ...

Techstream is Toyota-specific diagnostics. Dealership & some indie garages have that. Avoid parts cannon shops

I hope di dinaga. Matagal na garage queen gen 10 ko and I use it months at a time lang talaga. It's 15 and this is the first time it will have a repair.

Parts cannon shops like casa? hahaha. I have no choice but to have casa diagnose it, and I like that they pick up and deliver the car at my house. Pero if repairs are too expensive I will have it done outside na lang

For rodent problems, periodically apply the engine bay w/ LiquiMoly Marder/Marten Spray.

Our driver checked the brake fluid level okay naman daw and there's also no tagas at the bottom of the car. I asked casa to pick up asap so they can do the scan.

Common cause is that one of the wheel speed sensor wires getting damaged by road debris or chewed by a vermin. Other times, rust build-up between the tone ring and sensor can prevent it from reading the wheel speed, throwing out a tantrum and lighting up fault indicators and codes.

As others have mentioned, a proper diagnostic tool will tell you where to look.

Casa is charging me P3500 for the diagnosis. Is that fair??? It will be waived if I have the repair done sa casa

I spoke to an SA and it they are leaning towards rats chewing on the wires I hope not, will that be expensive?

Or it's just possible that the sensor has reached end of life and needs replacement ...

It's safe to drive kaya? I got nervous kasi casa said they will send someone over to check if it's safe to drive. I was thinking have casa diagnose then if the recommendation is expensive I will bring it to Speedyfix. I asked a shop in Sucat and it's P1500 for the scan but the device is with the owner and he's not always in the shop. Masama loob ko paying P3500 for diagnosis though casa will waive that if I will have it fixed there.

Also, I don't know how much cash I will give our driver if he goes straight to Speedyfix? I don't think I can give him my credit card kasi female name hehe

Handbrake on could just mean the brake fluid reservoir has reached the lower limit (it can be due to a leak, in which case your brake pedal may feel spongy or your pads are worn-out kaya sagad na yung fluid). Yung ABS light is likely just a sensor/sensors failing (though if its the pump, ouch mahal yan, pero rare naman yun). Is your speedo ok? Yung ABS sensor kasi is connected sa speedometer sensor, kapag sira yun, pipitik-pitik yan kahit naka-full-stop. Safe pa naman yan i-drive, yun lang careful lang kasi hindi mag-engage ang ABS. Not really a big deal for those who learned to drive without driving aids.

Drove once a kia hb na may faulty rear abs sensor all the way to zambales back then.

Since my mitsu was still under warranty then, the casa just replaced it.

MAhal na Pala mag pa scan nowadays. I remember buying a basic scanner For that price na. Laking tulong din.

okay naman daw yung brake fluid sabi ng driver namin pero I will check for myself later. Hindi pumipitik at full stop, constant on yung ABS and Handbrake light

That's great. I won't worry na about bringing it to San Juan/Speedyfix. P1500 din ang scan.

Grabe naman sa casa yung P3500 na scan, more than double. Ang maganda lang waived yun kung ire repair sa kanila

Consider that they're just plugging in a scanner to find out what the trouble code is without fixing it and it already costs 3.5k, how much more would it cost to actually effect any repair or replacement?
