Cost of owning a Subaru

Hello Forum. Just a general question, just how expensive it is to own a Subaru compared to other manufacturers like Honda on a maintenance and parts replacement point of view? I'm planning to buy a car this year and have Subaru Imprezza non-STI sedan as one of my options.

About me? I'm a first time car owner and would like reliability and safety as my top priorities. Thank you in advance!

Cost of owning a subaru? around 10-20 percent more than toyota mitsu or honda for usual change oil. Major parts mechanical or electrical would be much much more expensive. Parts usually come from motor image singapore . If reliability and safety are your top priorities subaru has toyota reliability with volvo safety. AFAIK 80-90 percent of all subarus produced since 1980 are still running. thats why i bought my legacy wagon. But fuel consumption is horrible in traffic because of AWD hehe. Non turbo engines are more reliable. Some may have issues rattles, soft paint , etc. Pero kung ako bibili yun turbo na to hell with reliability safe naman sa bangga e. haha

That's what this EJ20-powered beauty is getting (MT).



If I would buy a brand-new Impreza I would look for the FB16 1.6L engine.

im getting 5-6 km/l pure city 12-14 highway A /T . Legacy Wagon EJ204 engine. Brake pads sa casa no idea kung magkano baka 6-9k. kung mahal talaga pwede ka naman bumili sa labas ng aftermarket performance pads naka upgrade ka pa haha

The Impreza is often quoted as having a lower gearing than the Legacy, so this might explain why this one with M/T is having a worse fuel consumption than your Legacy Wagon. But the Impreza is still outstanding for a bantam, despite its low cargo volume that is often a problem while travelling...

I agree with levi.. specially CASA price.. Ang advantage lang ng other brands such as toyota and honda, mas madami kang parts na pwede bumili sa labas..

You just have to know the right people. Outside suppliers can give you parts at a better price.

Underbody and brake parts for many new car models are damn expensive. I already know this, but I always recoil in horror when I hear pricing for Civic or Mazda3 brake pads... which cost up to three times as much as outside.

Brake pads naman ng Subaru, standard. U can buy those outside.
What's good w/ Subaru, once you bring it to the casa for check up, your car is done in 4 hours.
Unlike Toyota. Simple check up would take you a whole day, may pila pa.

Casa prices are casa prices, All of them are expensive. I have the 2008 Impreza 2.0 MT. 9km/l no traffic.
Pero pag nastuck ka sa bumper to bumper....its 7km/l. Especially happens when I go to Divisoria sa Xmas. Shet!

point. My friend's forester was in an accident and his left front light assembly shattered.
Casa price for the assembly was 90,000+ pesos. He was able to source a pair of
lights (left and right) from abroad for 45,000 pesos. Shows you how much
the Casa marks up the prices of their spare parts.

Pero either way, sa ibang Japanese brand, halos 25k lang ang isang pair.

Are subarus that expensive to maintain? Parang Euro brand na pala.

I'm also planning to buy Impreza 2012 this coming June/July.

Is it advisable to have this as your first car?

Been talking with my friends and their advice to me is to buy a 2nd hand car instead.

They're also saying that Subaru maintenance is expensive. Mas bullet-proof choice daw ang Honda Civic.

I'm a newbie sa cars but eto kasi yung factors ko:
1. Ayoko ng mainstream na car, ayoko ng nakikita sa kung san san lang
2. Ayoko ng 2nd hand but brainwash me, baka mali yung pananaw ko na parang di ko feel yung kotse pag alam kong di ako una gumamit. Sabi kasi nung friends ko, dun mo daw makikita yung mga adik sa cars, kahit na 2nd hand pag nakita nilang ok at maganda, it's still considered a good buy.

Get a subaru to address your number one concern. Get a brand new subaru to answer your number 2 concern. Surprisingly, subaru maintenance is at par with other japanese cars. I have a forester 2.5xt, nasa 6k ang check up every 6 months. Fully synthetic pa yung oil na nilallagay nila. If you will compare that with other suvs, that is reasonable. Of course if you really want a car with cheaper maintenance cost, you can get a vios 1.3e. Yun nga lang, marami kang kaparehas. 6k for 6 months maintenace cost is reasonable for me. Hope this helps.

about your 2nd concern i really don't know why anyone would suggest getting a 2nd hand car as your first car if you can afford a brand new one. brand new is always better no matter what because you are sure that nothing is/was broken, you're sure that no one has abused it yet, you're sure that nothing is broken and you're sure that it wasn't flooded.
