Completely lost its identity. Outback used to be the off-road wagon: a lifted Legacy. Now it's just another crossover SUV.
In general out of proportion ang Subaru SUV front overhang. Reason daw ay kailangan nasa harap ng shock towers ang pistons, engine block kasi hindi kasya sa gitna ng wheel wells.
Pero magawa naman ito sa BRZ/86. Siguro dahil smaller ang wheel wells nito.
(Na trigger ng mention sa Toyota Sport 800 na may flat 2, hehe)
It's because of the AWD, the longitudinal orientation of the engine and the way the transmission is built.
The engine has to sit in front of the transmission, which has output shafts aligned with the front wheels.
With BRZ the engine can be further back because it's RWD only.

I guess technically they can do that by using a transfer case that attaches to the output shaft at the back of the transmission and have a separately housed front diff, but it'll defeat the main advantage of having a boxer engine that the center of gravity is very low.
