I bought an MB100 van 5 months ago and it was great since then. I have a problem with my engine right now. The mechanic said blow-by na makina ko kasi there's white smoke coming out from oil channel sa harap. The machanic said kelangan na daw ng overhaul ng engine ko and it will cost me a lot of money! I also noticed lately na malakas and consumption ko ng diesel, around 5-6 kms only per liter. Before I had my injector tips serviced (not replaced). I am thinking of replacing it na lang baka kasi kaya malakas consumption ko dahil di na maganda tips ko.

Any advices on what i should check and where can I bring it for repairs? I read about RBL and MCR shops on some of the threads here. Where can I find these shops?

    Thanks guys!

It would be hard to assess if your engine is indeed for overhaul just by your post. The best thing to do is to see a reliable mechanic.

RBL can do the overhaul. I'm not so sure about MCR. RBL is along Quezon Ave. (fronting Classmate KTV). MCR is in Banawe near Quezon Ave.

Hi Otep! Thanks for the immediate reply.

As per my mechanic, di naman daw delikado yung engine ko and it will last pa naman daw. I just have to monitor my oil level lagi kasi it will consume oil because of the problem with my pistin rings. Anyway, my immediate concern right now is my consumption. Also, I noticed parang walang power ang van ko ngayon at parang medyo hirap na nga umakyat sa garage namin.

Is it advisable to change my injector tips or do I need to check my engine problem first before changing it?

I already inquired last time with Denso Calibration. The tips will cost me P1,600 a piece (x5).

I get my MB100 serviced sa Apic sa Banawe. It's a shop that specializes in MB100 and other korean parts. Their mechanic is a former mechanic of CMC (as they claim) but so far okay naman gawa nila. I want to look for other shops sana that's why I asked RBL. Gusto ko I can get second opinions and options when having my van fixed.

    Thanks again Otep!

The engine of the MB100 is a very tough engine. It has been around since the 70's. It can go 250,000kms. without having the need to replace internals. Just maintenance.

Try getting a second opinion from other calibrators like Betan and Central Diesel. We took our unit to CD and instead of a calibration, they just advised us to change the fuel filter/s (I can't recall if the MB100 had a single filter or two). Ok naman na. May power na ulit. Maybe you could pay them a visit sometime.

RBL did the overhaul on our other Benz. Matagal na iyon. More than 8 years ago. Pero ok pa din up to now.

    kimpoy,
ok ba sa MCR? look at my handle. palitan mo ng konti letters, kilala mo na ako.

    Otep..

I had my filters replaced siguro last december lang pero I'll check na rin. Two filters meron ang MB100. I dont know what it's called pero yung isa plastic na maliit lang and the other one malaki. Primary and master ata tawag, but im not sure, hehe.

    Jerkky..

Where can I find MCR/RUDSON? What about the parts? Do they also sell parts for MB100s?

    Thanks guys!

Our MB100 is imported bt we had it serviced sa CATs..naging problema namin ang bagal humatak...hndi nga makaakyat sa parking sa shangri la mall. kya dinala ko sa CATs. nka P70k din kmi dun..ang parts nya is korean but the engine itself is german talga. eh halos wla naman pinagiba ung design ng local at imported eh. in fact according to CATS mas matibay pa daw ang imported na MB100..

pinalitan ang fuel filter, realease bearing, pre filter and so many other things na kelangan ireplace..finally ng nakuha ko, i made a test drive..at inakyat ko sa parking ng shang...hindi ako pinahiya..madaling nakaakyat..lumakas pa ang hp nya..ang bilis humatak lalo na sa hiritan..nakakatakot na nga idrive sa expressway dahil mabilis tlaga..now ang problema ko lang is ung FUEL KNOCK na sinasabi...calibration daw kailangan..but once uminit na engine nawawala..pero syempre mas ok kung talagang wala ingay.

i suggest taking it to CATS for the frst time(6mos warranty)..then ung succeeding repairs and maintenance sa mga mechanics na experts sa MB100.

ingatan nyo ung rack and pinion lang ksi P25k un..

    un lang guys..

MCR subok ko na yan. hehehe. Kaya lang baka mahirap mag-overhaul from their store front.

Did your mechanic do a compression test on your engine already?

Kung overhaul talaga, you'll save good amount of money if you take your time to canvass around and source the needed parts... Don't just leave it with your mechanic and ask him for the bill afterwards.

MCR is primarily a parts store in Banawe. Primary (the big one) and inline (yung plastic sa fuel line).

    vinj..

where can i go for a compression test? i doubt my shop/mechanic have ability to do that test.

    Otep..

I will try to change my filters na rin. Maybe that's the reason why i lost power. Dang! Very poor kasi ang quality ng diesel natin dito e. BTW, I use diesel booster ng petron once in a while to help clean my lines. Also, I had my tank cleaned already a month after I got my unit.

Sorry guys .. I'm new with diesel engines kasi kaya di ko pa alam mga pasikot-sikot and I'm still trying to learn.

I like my MB100 kasi medyo makinis siya. I'm thinking kasi of looking for a new one na lang instead of spending xx amount of money for the overhaul. Others recommend to just get it overhauled (if that's the real problem) instead kasi baka nga naman di maganda makuha ko, I'll end up with the same problem.

    Spidey..

    Thanks for the tip.

Guys! I forgot to mention. My unit nga pala is imported (Ssangyong). It came in sa pinas as brand new 1997, may sunroof and rotating seats.

Naalala ko lang i-mention because of spidey's post.

Thank you for all the inputs. I will pay a visit sa mga shops that you recommended.

    One last thing ..

Otep .. where can I find central diesel?

    Thanks!

All reputable mechanic shops should have the compression tester, even most of calibration shops have them. Kahit nga yung neighbor mechanic ko meron nun.

Tama pa-compression test mo muna. From there, malalaman mo na kung kailangan ng top overhaul or general overhaul or calibration lang.

Central diesel is located along Quezon Ave. near Classmate KTV and on the same side.

Ssangyong units used a smaller radiator (ingat sa overheat) but had a 'taller' final drive ratio (allows for a higher top speed than local units).

    hi otep..

thanks for the info re CD.

Yes I was told by my mechanic about the difference between local and Ssangyong units. Aside from the radiator, Ssangyong unit also have 2 oil cooler lines, better transmission in terms of akyatan but the Ssangyong units doesn't have a stabilizer bar in both rear and front suspension unlike CMCs. Other than that, I think everything is the same. But of course, the engine for CMC units is an MB engine. But since Mercedes Benz is co-venture with Ssangyong (5% share I think), Ssangyong engines doesn't have an MB cover but I think its inside these powerplants, technology and parts are mostly the same.

    Thanks!

The Ssangyong ang CMC MB100 are made with the same parts.

The CMC unit is the one configured for low end grunt (pang-akyatan). The Ssangyong is a highway cruiser. But the difference isn't really that great. Mapapansin mo lang siguro iyan if you bought a Ssanyong Istana pick up version and fully loaded the bed.

The CMC unit is also the one with a more robust cooling system. Both local and Korean units have noisy transmissions. This was only corrected in the later years of the vehicle's life (under Daewoo na yata sila nito).

Not so sure about the stabilizer bars.

matatanggal ba ung fuel knock pag pinalinis ung gas tank?
