There is a grinding noise from the flywheel. But it does not affect the functionality of the vehicle. This was addressed in the last of the series (the ones with body colored wipers) via a different flywheel and improved engine insulation.
I stuffed the shifter boot with cotton balls and it reduced the noise as well.

medyo malaki yung body compared to standard vans, sa mga meron o nakatry magdrive...malaki ba difference sa handling compared to standard/normal vans like M L300, T HiAce o di kaya H Starex?

We used to have an L300 and my daily driver in college was a Besta 2.2. The MB100 rides and drives better than both of them. On the open road it feels like a Victory Liner bus. Very planted and stable. Size-wise, I've gotten used to it, since the MB100 is where I learned how to drive.
The Starex drives better than the MB100 but won't hold as much people or cargo. Even the so-called 12 seater Starex has less cabin space than the MB100. Passenger room in the MB100 is almost like a bus.

You can choose to get parts from Korean parts specialists (the same guys who sell Kia/Hyundai/Daewoo parts) or from Mercedes Benz specialists. We usually get ours from MCR Banawe or from Mang Rudy in Bago Bantay. MB100 parts are also supplied by the same companies that make parts from Hyundai/Kia (e.g. Mando)
FC figures are posted in this thread as well as the other MB thread. It's pretty much competitive with the Starex TDi, and considering how much you can stuff into ang MB, it can be more cost effective.
The engine is a 2.9 version of the engine used in older Mercedes Benz sedans (e.g. 300D) OM662 ata ang code nito. Which is a good thing, since the other car I drive is a '77 300D so I'm quite familiar with the engine already.
Porma is subjective. Frankly, the MB100 looks very generic to me. But it has been doing its job well for the past 10 years so I can forgive that.

We had to tow it home when the clutch cable broke. Had to tow it again when the shifter assembly broke. I think this happened 4+ years ago. Both parts have been replaced by revised (redesigned) heavier duty parts since.
Also had a PS leak twice in its lifetime (bale one leak every 5 years hehehe). Just had el cheapo replacement hose fabricated by local hose fabrication business.
A/C is not an issue. Malapit lang si Mang Mario dito. I think the vehicle is on it's 2nd a/c compressor (surplus), 3rd aux fan, 2nd front evap (replacement), and 3rd rear evap (OEM the last time around).
We just put in new replacement shocks last 2006. The first set lasted 100,000kms. Up to now wala pang ingay suspension. Less kalampag compared to the '03 Starex nila commander (I pity that Starex, sobrang neglected).
Hindi ako happy dun sa last clutch na kinabit (3 years ago?). Not the fault of the vehicle. Crappy lang talaga yung gumawa and mukhang fake pa ang parts. A store named 'BW Commercial' along Banawe. Sana sa MCR na lang ginawa para sigurado. Clutch feels crappy now. But since it's not worn out, hindi pa muna papalitan.
Had an overheating problem for a few days (October 31 to November 1). By November 2 naayos na kina Mang Rudy. Something with the fan clutch, I think.
Overall, sulit siya talaga. Kung may brand new lang nito ngayon, we'd get one again. MB140D naman para 15 seater. :D

January 10th, 2007 09:48 PM #200our van before was a L300 VersaVan. served us well, pero cramped kami inside, plus aircon not so good.
imagine how awed we were when we used it for the 1st time going home to lucena.
big space, cold aircon, good engine.
pangit nga lang kasi ako driver, pero all is well, i felt like i was driving a bus that time.
even without tint for the 1st month, nagmo-moist pa din yung glass due to the aircon.
la pa nga lang 1 year, nabangga sa side yung van ng wreckless jeepney, right after pa-repair, binenta na namin. medyo mapalamahiin kasi parents ko eh. pag naaksidente na yung sasakyan, benta na agad. swerte yung nakabili, coz baba pa yung mileage, tapos maganda naman ung pagkarepair.
tapos starex na pumalit. (iba story na uli yun)
until now gamit pa din nung nakabili samin. for rent na sya. everyday may byahe sa manila.
yun lang po.
hehehe.
Mali nga ako... The car barged through a bollard... maybe it wasn't crash-rated. Decorative...
