If I had lived longer in Illinois, it was a serious consideration. I played the best golf of my life out there.
mercedes plantation golf and country club and mactan island golf and country club.

you practice the short game 80 percent of the time.

i spent 3 to 4 hours a day practicing chipping, pitching and putting. i played like 3 to 4 times a week. and on weekends i accompany my daughter at the driving range beating 12 buckets of golf balls.

I wish I have that much time each day to be at the pitching green or driving range. Back in Illinois, I play around 2-3 times a week in spring time and a bit more in the summer.

It's the longer club that I struggle with mostly, specially the driver. I tend to use my 3wood more off the tee if I find myself struggling with the driver. A missed tee shot will force me to scrambling back to save par or bogey. It's always my irons that save my day when I am having a bad day off the tee.

you really need that driver, especially in long par4s.

i don't have a problem with my driver. i had an eagle opportunity on par5 9th this morning but i 3-putted it.

it's the longer irons (4 and 3) that I have difficulty hitting solidly. so, swap them with a utility club and a 52 wedge.

i have a Korean friend who made a driving range in his house made of nets. he also has s small putting green. he spent like 50k to set them up. really hard core, but very usable to hone one's swing and short game.

just played 9 holes. scored even par36. i had 3 birdies but offset by 3 bogies (bogeyed par3 3rd and double-bogeyed the par4 6th). i had one eagle opportunity at par5 5th but converted only to a birdie.

I'll continue this afternoon for the back 9.

just rounded up the back 9.

    i parred hole no. 10, 11, 12. bogeyed the par4 13th. had a chance for eagle the par5 14th but birdied it only. i parred hole nos. 15, 16, 17, but bogeyed par5 18th. it's 1 over 37.

my aggregate score is 1 over 73. my lowest score so far. had i not bogeyed the 18th, it would have been even par, but my 3rd shot hit the left side bunker.

the 2018 u.s. open at the shinnecock hills now playing in new york must be very difficult. going to into the final round, dustin johnson, who led in the first and second rounds with 4-under par, had 7-over 77 on the third round on saturday, but he's still on top of the leaderboard at 3-over par and in a four-way tie with last year's u.s. champion, brooks koepka, daniel berger, and tony finau.

the big names like tiger woods, rory mcilroy, jason day, jordan spieth had early exit in the second round.

Shinnecock Hills is just brutal. The fescue is a punishment for those who miss the fairway and the greens are so fast. Those who teed off early yesterday got the better part of the day but in the afternoon, it became horrible with the wind howling.

The US Open is just a big test for the best in the game. The USGA just seem to enjoy seeing pros go thru an ordeal.

i agree. do we have that kind of grass here, or it is just endemic in that part of the world. i think shinnecock hills is far more difficult than any of the links in scotland.

i read a USGA official saying: shinnecock isn't there to embarrass the greats, but to test who among them is really the great.

i'm batting for DJ. hope he'll make it today. his good friend brooks koepka is in contention too.

I am excited to see that pairing between DJ and Koepka. They epitomize the modern athletic golfers. Finnau and Berger will be the last pair to tee off.

Koepka is one of the few PGA pros who's not under contract with any manufacturer for his equipment. He used the same fairway wood, irons, and wedges as his win last year. Only the driver is new for this year's win. He has Taylormade woods, Mizuno irons, Vokey wedges, and a Scotty putter on his bag.

Patrick Reed, who won the 2018 Masters, also has no equipment contract so he uses the clubs he likes to play with.

Very much a Nike guy, like Tiger, Rory, and Jason Day.

Jason Dufner has no exclusive contract whatsoever to wear a hat on any of the days he's playing on tour. The golf world continually follows the various hats he wears. Hahahaha

though he doesn't have an athletic physique but i like him. must be the reason why equipment and apparel companies didn't sign him up to endorse their products. same holds true with patrick reed.

brooks koepka's back-to-back win seems to lend substance to the truism that golf isn't merely a game but indeed a sport.

his physical conditioning is as rigorous as that of any world-class athletes.

Many think that golf is easy, merely hitting balls with sticks. A colleague before decided to take on the sport and he was in for a big surprise. Hitting the ball to fly in the direction you want is already a challenge, what more in doing it walking for almost 4 miles under the sun for 4-5 hours. I told him that he's lucky to play in just one weather condition. Playing in Midwest spring weather with temperatures between 32-35*F takes dedication.
