After a long and tiring day, i also believe it's good to "wind down"and cool off before hitting the sack even if you're already dead tired and just want to sleep (take time to relax, read a magazine/book, take a light snack, etc.). This helps me sleep better and feel better rested when i wake up the next day as against just going straight to bed.
