Kudos to the Archers, they certainly proved their mental toughness last night. Ayo took risks in having his stars play even with foul trouble, but it turns out this was the right decision after all.
Ricci Rivero will be even more formidable in the years to come. His recovery from the 1st half to the 2nd half will only make him a far better player going forward. Mbala's energy and power underneath started the run while Montalbo proved his leadership skills when he set the tone by being aggressive on defense.
I think the Ateneo coaching staff could have done better at managing time outs in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, just to stave off momentum changes. PG play has also been lackluster in this game for the Blue Eagles, as they could not come to grips with the mayhem defense. The ADMU big men were not as aggressive in the paint, which certainly eased the pressure on the DLSU front court and helped Mbala stay in the game. Go looked hesitant with his 3-point shot as well, and could not lure Mbala away from the paint.
It will be interesting on what adjustments will happen come Sunday. And I have a feeling that game will also be a classic.
Fabilioh!
