Archers nagprotesta vs Warriors
"It was clear on the replay that there was basket interference," wika ni Green Archers coach Franz Pumaren.
Ermito de Sagun ng University of Santo Tomas, Brenn Perez ng University of the East, Kiko Diaz ng University of the Philippines at Ramoncito Campos ng La Salle.
"It was a judgment call by the refs. For me, wala talagang goal tending," wika ni Red Warriors mentor Dindo Pumaren
TURNED down.
In a swift and decisive move, the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has decided to squelch the protest made by La Salle in its 56-57 loss to University of the East last Sunday, claiming that judgment call in the third period didn't decide the outcome of the match.
That was the assessment of UAAP technical committee head Ricky Palou in response to the goaltending claim by La Salle's league board representative Danny Jose.
"The protest was denied because the committee deemed it was a judgment call by the referees," said Palou. "Protests are upheld if it involves technical matters."
The intriguing situation happened in the third quarter of the game where UE player Elmer Espiritu blocked a driving Archer Cholo Villanueva.
La Salle officials and coaching staff claimed the ball was on the downward path and that a goaltending call should be made.
The committee considers the complaint filed by Jose on Monday afternoon to be of non-technicality and a pure judgment call made by the referees.
Officials of the UAAP board in the meeting at the Casino Espaņol in Kalaw are Ricardo Matibag from host-school Adamson University, Kiko Diaz (University of the Philippines), Ramoncito Campos (De La Salle University) and Brenn Perez (University of the East)
Another matter was also discussed, which involved University of the Philippines and La Salle.
This time, it was the winning team -- UP -- which handed its protest on La Salle's Oliver Cua, who wore the wrong jersey number (22 instead of 16) in their Thursday encounter also at the same venue.
The technical committee, however, warned the defending champions about the matter wherein a repetition of the matter could mean a forfeiture.
