Arwin Santos did the right thing by walking away. Baka ma-suspend pa. He should be praised for not reacting and stooping to the level of that thug, Mr. Manny Salgado.

Some people watching the game live reported that the two (Yeo and Santos) were talking trash the whole game. The last second shot clinched it with Santos getting away with the last word. Yeo, I believe, walked back and tried to get some parting shots of his own. Then the Manager / Thug comes in and gives Santos a whack at the back of his head.

Let's see if the DLSU admin fires him or waffles.

If not, the UAAP should ban him permanently. If they don't, it'll just encourage schools to send out cheapshots like Salgado (eg benchwarmers, ballboys, waterboys, etc...) to strike at the star players of opposing schools to provoke them.

There is no doubt that all lasallians feel bad with what happened yesterday. Kanina nga lang sa review center parang hiyang hiya kami sa pinaggagagawa ni salgado kahapon, smut saring schools pa naman ang kasama namin duon. Parati na lamang ganyan ang nangyayari eh, mga alumni ang sumisira sa pangalan ng dlsu. Mabuti sana kung makikipagaway si salgado eh harap harapan, kaso pa traydor eh, sabay takbo pa pagkabatok, parang bakla eh di mapangatawanan ang pinaggagawa niya. He should publicly appplogize for what he has done. He has put dlsu's title hopes in a precarious state, a "fired up" arwind is impossible to stop, plus there is the other thing called "karma" to worry about.

Come to think of it paano kung napuruhan nya si Arwind at biglang nagka-komplikasyon dahil sensitive part ang batok ng tao,eh di mas malaki na ang advantage na mananalo na ang La Salle sa series?! Hay ogags talaga yun matandang yun. tsk tsk tsk.

La Salle official says FEU”s Santos provoked him

The assistant team manager of De La Salle University basketball team on Friday said an apparent insult uttered by Arwind Santos of the Far Eastern University triggered the anger that sent his fist flying toward the FEU ace's nape.

Manny Salgado said it was not his intention to hit Santos after Game 1 of the UAAP Finals at the Araneta Coliseum Thursday that FEU won, 75-73.

"It is clearly in the tape that my main intention was really to pacify both Santos and (Joseph) Yeo who were really at it," Salgado said in a Magandang Umaga Pilipinas interview Friday morning.

Salgado said Santos said "sweet nothings' to him while he was pacifying the FEU standout and Yeo at the end of the game. "Santos whispered some sweet nothings to me which provoked me and I blew my top."

After hitting Santos, Salgado ran away and was chased by an unidentified FEU team official. Players from both camps and referees rushed to the middle of the court to stop the official from going after Salgado.

A tape playback of the incident showed Yeo trash-talking Santos after the final buzzer went off. Santos was seen walking away from the La Salle player though Yeo followed and kept talking.

Salgado came between the two. When Santos' back was turned to him, Salgado hit the FEU cager.

The La Salle team official said that as a result of the incident, he has offered to file a leave of absence from the team.

UAAP basketball commissioner Joe Lipa said that they will review the tape and recommend what sanctions, if any, to impose against Salgado.

Anton Montinola, FEU team manager, declined to comment on the incident. He said that FEU will leave it to the UAAP board to penalize Salgado.

Game 2 of the best-of-three finals is on October 6 at Araneta.

UAAP bans La Salle cage official for life

The basketball technical committee of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines imposed Friday a lifetime ban on De La Salle assistant team manager Manny Salgado for punching Arwind Santos of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws after Thursday's UAAP Finals Game 1.

In handing the decision, committee chairman Ricky Palou said the board reviewed the tape from Game 1 that saw Salgado coming between Santos and La Salle's Joseph Yeo.

Salgado appeared trying to pacify the two from getting at each other but walked around Santos and threw a side punch from behind the FEU playmaker.

Santos was caught unaware but the cameras recorded the incident. After punching the cager, Salgado ran away and was chased by an unidentified FEU bench official.

Palou said they have yet to transmit the decision to Salgado. He said UAAP president Father Max Rendon may be one to personally inform Salgado about the decision.

According to Palou, the technical committee decided that the lifetime ban should be imposed on Salgado. He said Thursday's incident was the second time Salgado figured in fight after a UAAP basketball game.

Palou said the first incident was in 2003 when Salgado exchanged punches with an assistant coach of the Ateneo de Manile Blue Eagles, La Salles main rival in the UAAP cage wars.

Both were suspended for a game each.

...pero 2nd time na kasi ..it means pwede pa niyang gumawa ng 3rd or 4th time iyon cguro iniiwasan ng UAAP board ang maulit ang ganon incident..at saka dami naman pwede pa makuha cguro na maging staff ng basketball team ng DLSU pamalit sa kanya

IMO ulit, if that is the case... lahat na ng punching incidents should automatically mean a lifetime ban. let's see...
