I did my usual 30 pushups. I could do more. But, why?

I also did my usual 50 sit-ups, 1 hour on the elliptical, 1 hour on the (leaning) bike, and my 100 free throws (score: 72/100). No playing games though. My knees are still a bit sore.

I'll also do pushups (and sit-ups) on those days I don't exercise. I can do those at home.

    Question: Why 22?

    Never mind. I saw why.

I need to work on my breathing technique when doing the crawl, mainly when turning my side to get some air. I'm used to wearing a snorkel (and mask) where there's a continuous source of air.

With the breast stroke, I have no problems breathing with the classic technique. I can also use a variation where my head stays out of the water all the time. It's a little slower. But, hey. I'm not competing or anything. I just do it for fun.

You have a point. But it requires you to exert too much effort. You can casually swim to your own pace and still get the same benefit.

I wasn't really concentrating on my free throws (67/100). I was even making one-handed attempts (3/6).

No treadmill today. 30 minutes on the elliptical on 14/20 resistance, speed ~3.8 mph. 30 minutes on the bike. Easy settings. I didn't even bother to count calories spent.

    I'm on vacation. ;)

Oh. I also juggled an indoor soccer ball for a few minutes.

Then, all of those exercising had to vacate the premises because there was a Sesame Street event going on.

I'm on vacation starting today. I have no idea what my exercise schedule will be like. While my youngest kid did her swimming lessons, I spent my time in the pool. I didn't do laps (crawl and breast strokes) like I normally do. I did go to the deepest part of the pool and treaded water nonstop for 20 minutes and then practiced floating while remaining perfectly still. The last part was the hardest. It takes serious relaxation of the body, almost Zen-like. The moment I tensed up, my face sank below and I came up spluttering water through my nose. Had the arms and legs spread out, head all the way back, trying to keep the body relaxed and limber.

Oh. I also had to keep my head and neck out of the water and my shoulders at least level with the latter or higher. I did dip down to get wet. It was already 100 deg F. I didn't want a sunburn.

Eating healthy and staying active which can be at times challenging with a 40hour a week desk job.

I mainly hike on the weekends and row 3 times a week before work. This year I've decided to challenge myself more and what used to be 2 mile hikes on the weekends are now hiking for at least 8 miles a weekend. 4 months ago I let Camelback mountain defeat me and this weekend I bagged my first 14er. The fire has been lit and I Plan to summit more 14ers. My recovery heart rate has improved by 50% and when I hike i have to at be least be at HR Zone 3.

    Sample hikes:

I used to hike alone around the Lake Tahoe/Donner Lake area when I was single. I quit after I saw a bear. Two things I don't want to run into in the middle of nowhere and me unarmed: a bear or a mountain lion.

Nice. I go on solo hikes around here a lot..nothing too crazy. I've seen deer, jackrabbits, lizards, a snake, squirrels and marmots (my favorite). Every now and then i think about what i'd do if i see a coyote, bear or mountain lion. I thought about bringing bear spray when I'm out in the wilderness but haven't yet.

In less than a month we're planning to do another 14er (moderate with difficult class 2) so i plan to trail run a bit and get some decent exposure under my belt.

If I were in your spot, I'd go with a group. Animals are less likely to be around when there's a large group of humans around.

Coyotes are another danger. They're timid when solitary. But, at the California Central Coast, I've seen them gather in packs. One time I was working a night shift (at a weather station). I went outside to check on some noises. I trained my flashlight at one spot and saw a bunch of coyotes sitting around. I stopped counting at 15 pairs of eyes. I tried to shoo them away. They didn't budge and just looked at me silently. That was the cue for me to run back inside and lock the door.

    They're getting bolder too:

A bear has so much mass a rifle round or shotgun cartridge will only piss it off. They're very fast too. You may get one or two rounds off and then the bear's on you. I think the bear spray is a better deterrent.

Be careful with the weather. Check the mountain forecasts regularly. The local news here mentioned a hiker (up north in Flagstaff) getting killed by lightning.
