^ganun lang kababaw? talagang politics lang. I'm sure meron technicalities kung bakit hinde sila recognized.
tingin ko kasi parang yun nangyari sa Smart gilas before. yun away betweem BAP and SBP. diba ang talagang recognized lang ng FIBA eh yun mga under BAP, so hinde official yun Smart gilas yun naguumpisa sila dahil "breakaway" group ang SBP from BAP.
more or less tingin ko ganito rin ito.
level up na sila sa la mesa dam na sila nag practice. dahil nagkakasakit sila sa Manila bay. pero I still see in the morning around Manila area na naka motor tapos meron dalang paddle.

Saan ba galing ang pondo ng POC na yan? DI ba satin bilang isang taxpayer?
"Sa Republic Act 9064, sinasabi dun na bago ka magbigay sa isang atleta o sa isang team ng incentive, you have to be recognized by the POC and the PSC, so even the law acknowledges the jurisdiction of the POC in recognizing the association," Garica said. -

POC: Dragon boat team needs to retire
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has already finalized the line-up of athletes who will represent the Philippines in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Jakarta this November.
In the dragon boat event, the paddlers from the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation (PCKF) will be the ones to play for flag and country, instead of the paddlers from the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF). The PDBF paddlers are coming off a triumphant campaign in the International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships, where they won 5 gold medals and 2 silvers.
But they will not be allowed to represent the country in the SEA Games as they are not recognized by the POC as the official national sports association (NSA) for dragon boat. They are also not endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
PCKF qualifications
But POC Board Director Jeff Tamayo says that the PDBF team may be able to join the SEA Games. This is if the PDBF paddlers pass the qualifications of the canoe-kayak federation. But the families and supporters of the PDBF team worry that the Filipino paddlers may become victims of politicking in the sport. This is because the chef de mission of the athletes delegation for the SEA Games is the president of the canoe-kayak federation.
Tamayo, however, assures PDBF supporters that this will not be the case.
Accusations of steroid use
But the POC is also saying that the PDBF athletes will have a hard time making it to the PCKF team, because the PDBF paddlers are already old. The POC adds that the PDBF paddlers should already retire to give way to younger athletes.
“They have the body, they have everything, but as we all know, ampaw na lang ‘yun,” Tamayo said. Moreover, the POC has also released a report about the alleged use of steroids by members of the PDBF. The POC also alleges that the PDBF team cheated the time trial results for the Asian Games.
Outcry from supporters
The POC’s allegations have angered the PDBF team’s supporters.
“Pulitika talaga ang puno’t dulo nito,” said Bandera sports columnist Eric Dimzon. “May mga taong gustong mapanatili sa puwesto kaya gusto nilang pilayan ang grupo.”
The PDBF’s supporters are questioning the POC’s decision not to recognize the PDBF as the country’s national sports association for the dragon boat event.
This is because in the letter from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it only recommended the POC to place the dragon boat event under the canoe-kayak federation.
It was not, therefore, a direct order from the IOC.
But the POC is saying that they needed to follow the recommendation from the IOC. Otherwise, they may be suspended, which will affect all other sports in the country. -- Report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News

Cojuangco urges paddlers to join NSA

Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose Cojuangco Jr. said yesterday he will welcome the paddlers who competed in the small boat division of the International Dragon Boat Federation Nations Cup in Tampa Bay, Florida, to the national pool training for the coming Southeast Asian Games but qualified they must register with the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation (PCKF) to be eligible.
“I personally wish to congratulate our team for bringing honor to our country,” said Cojuangco, referring to the squad that garnered five gold medals in the Florida meet. “We’re all proud of this achievement especially as it has brought more awareness to how sports can fire up our nation.”
Without downplaying the feat, POC spokesman Joey Romasanta explained that the POC was unable to support the team because the rowers are affiliated with Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) which lost its National Sports Association (NSA) status early this year when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled it to fall under PCKF...
... Cojuangco said despite the organizational wrangling, the dragon boat team deserves recognition. “They’ve done a good job,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if they competed in the small boat events. Winning in those events establishes their capability. I’d like to advise the rowers to join the canoe-kayak federation, get themselves accredited into the training pool, receive assistance from the PSC and if they’re chosen, compete in the standard boat at the Southeast Asian Games this November.”
Cojuangco said joining the PCKF will enable the dragon boat paddlers to avail of the high-caliber training for national pool athletes. “We’ve got to be ready to do the standard boat and compete in long distances,” he said. “I’ve noticed in the past that our rowers are limited to full capacity only in the first 200 meters. Kinakapos tayo. We recently hosted four American trainers who laid out a program of seven levels of physical exercises and we’re just in the third level. This involves physical examinations, exercises that focus on particular muscles depending on the sport, close monitoring and regular testing of performance. That’s the kind of scientific training we want all our athletes to undergo and we’re inviting our dragon boat rowers to enlist.”...

August 12th, 2011 08:18 PM #49POC's stupidity just backfired on them and that Tamayo is still trying to get his foot out of his mouth. The dragonboaters were given feted by media and Malacanang today.
