Occasional regulated fasting: is it good for you?

I am thinking of a more gradual approach.
The aim is not really to lose weight but to flush out toxins with juice or water fasting. And to give my digestive system a break.
Next day's diet will only consist of vegetables (no carbs) so as not to shock the body.
It will be a three day process and I will be doing it over a weekend.
I got curious because the outgoing commander of the Afghanistan forces, Gen. McChrystal eats only once a day and has a reputation for monk-like asceticism as mentioned in the Rolling stone article. Maybe it puts the mind into hunter-gatherer mode and gives you a heightened sense of awareness.
It's not really fasting but this got me thinking.
