The more na nagagamit ko tong bagong full sus ba bike mas na-appreciate ko coming from a hardtail before diyan sa atin. First time ko mainvite ng fellow Pinoys at pumunta sa Mormon-National Trail sa South Mountain dito sa Phoenix and did not expect yung downhill section.
After ng weekend ride parang di na masama ang Papago Trail.

^^ Arizona has great trails, for sure!
Here's my babe, Scarlett, just after her bike spa; waiting now for her rear shock (an X2) to come back from routine service.

Finally got to pick up the Epic Expert earlier after waiting 7 months magkaroon ng stock. Not sure bakit yung Epic is such in short supply kumpara sa Stumpjumper.

Had to change my cogs and chanced upon a local seller of legit Garbaruk components. Most of the Garbaruk stuff listed on Shopee and Lazada are fakes so I was happy to find a reliable distributor: Bike Boy PH from Iloilo (recommended to me by a teammate).
It is basically the same weight (about 2 grams lighter) as the XX1 XG-1299 Eagle cassette but priced over 12,000 pesos cheaper in the Philippines. I was hoping to get the 9-52 cassette (similar to an e*thirteen 9-46 set I used on my Shimano rig back in the day) but it looks like only the 10-52 was in stock this week.
Reviews online have been good but I won't be able to truly test it until the weekend.
Upgrade parts for the Epic almost complete…

Jerich Farr (SEA Games gold medalist, men elite downhill) and Nino Eday (Philippine mtb team - DH) are both down under checking out bike parks. They just came from Cairns (Crankworx DH). They were in Melbourne a couple of days ago. I don't know where they are now but they could well be in your neck of the woods.

Got this from a local seller in QC. I was actually surprised it was here already here in the PH as this was out of stock overseas as late as last July.
This is a device that uses elastomers to minimize pedal kickback on full-suspension bikes. This is no use going uphill, of course, as this is really intended to improve suspension feel going down rock gardens and brake bumps, particularly for flat pedal riders.
I tested it on some stairs and it seems legit. The true test will be this weekend at the mountain.

so having a fast engagement hub will be useless because the chainring is twisting backwards?..i wonder how stift is the spring inside that adapter

That is why DT Swiss says 36 P.O.E. is the best for technical biking. Less chance of pedal kickbak.
36t is the stock rachet on the new 350..it was 18t before, but you can get 52t as an upgrade......anyway i9 is way better than the dt350 interms of engagement...i can say zero lag kung baga instant engagement ang i9 ..im a fan of dt hubs because its cheaper than i9 and cking

Here's a one-minute vid from NSMB showing how the chain works with and without an Ochain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcgcZCgXX2o
A fast engagement hub is great for pedaling but not helpful for suspension designs where the axle path is not rearward (i.e. most single pivot and horst link designs).
The Ochain uses elastomers with varying degrees of stiffness, with 12 degrees being the most compliant. Elastomers were used as suspension for bikes, believe it or not, during the early 90's.
Right but their compatriots in the Scott Velosolutions DH team tested different DT Swiss ratchets and concluded that 18t was best for DH. Neko Mullaly mentioned this in a recent podcast; coincidentally, he is developing his own bike and it has an Ochain on it.
In terms of preference, I've always used Hope hubs because these are relatively cheap and last for a long time. I still have Hope Pro 2's in the toolbox which I bought in 2013 and has been on no less than 4 bikes and still going strong.

So I did my first runs using the Ochain last weekend (with the 6 degree elastomer) and I was very happy with the added grip on the chunky sections (it was drizzling on my very first run so there was some moisture on track). However, the feel wasn't THAT much different from a stock chainring, particularly on the larger rock gardens on Patiis Highway. There was a lot less chainslap, definitely, so the bike was quieter.
I will make a change to the more compliant 9 degree elastomers and test again this weekend.
he said 18t is best for DH because DH riders dont pedal as much as trail/AM riders...i do love technical climb so a fast engagement hub is ideal...
