Good choice! I use that as my rear tire (Magic Mary on the front). Which compound did you pick?

yeah, the rear clearance is pretty big. arguably too big!

my plan is to mount 2.8 nobby nics on my american classic wide lightnings which have 29mm internal width.

that should give me an initial tire width of 66mm though it's expected to grow as wide as 71mm within two weeks of riding.

the rear triangle has a clearance of 78-82mm which is plenty enough to accommodate the tire.

but then again, that doesn't surprise me given that you can run it with a 29er without having to worry about mud

but I'm still months away from completing this project bike... and I'm still having trouble sleeping.
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?

yes. you read it right. plus tires.

the chainstay length of the sensor is 440mm.

ibis mojo 3 plus bike is 437mm.

    niner rkt9 is also 440mm.

    LOTS of clearance in there.

and I only plan to use 150mm front.

having a plus tire simulates the effect of having extra 10-20mm of travel and larger negative air chamber depending on how much pressure is in it.

IMHO, it depends largely on tire and rim combination. stumpy plus uses tires that are more or less a kilo heavy along with relatively heavy rims.

reading through some testing and reviews, it appears that the rim width sweet spot is 30-35mm. So, I went ahead with an AC wide lightning wheelset(1460g per pair)

also, the nobby nics are 820-860g each whereas other plus tires are easily north of 990g.

It should roughly give me more or less a similar feel to a normal 27.5 though the inertial moment will still be a tiny bit higher than a 29er. so yeah, no way around it. just minimize its effects - lots of understeer.

but I don't mind it since the way I ride tends to favor going through obstacles and hopping over them.

I dunno, I might be getting older fast to want MOAR stability.

looks similar to the muddy loamy trails of quirino. just add square edge rocks.

anyways, ozcity's comment on stumpy plus being sluggish and imprecise had me thinking about it.

how much sluggish are these wheels anyway?

so, I searched all over the web for numbers and crunched it for science!

we can compare the tires' ability to accelerate and decelerate through inertial moment which is equal to mass x radius squared.

a higher inertial moment means it's harder to accelerate but carries more speed in a straight line. it also means that due to centrifugal force, it's harder to steer.

    here's what I found out:

weight is measured in kg and length in meters.

well, you can name a certain wheelset and tire combination and I can calculate it for you

if it's stans flow 26er + hans dampf 2.35, you end up like this:

    hans dampf tubeless
    bead seat diameter: 0.559
    stans flow: 1.837
    hans dampf 2.35: 0.765
    inertial moment 0.263030882

    normal hans dampf
    bead seat diameter: 0.559
    stans flow: 1.837
    hans dampf 2.35: 0.765
    inner tube weight: 0.37
    inertial moment: 0.291935374
