Finally replaced my broken shifter, and this marks my first ever upgrade:

Hopefully I can still stay true to my mantra - "if it ain't broke, don't buy a new one" [emoji23]

Quite a noticeable difference between the XT (M780) and SLX (M660) shifters. I guess I psyched myself a bit, but I really did feel more solid shifting with the XT. Downshifts are especially smooth, and I like that I can downshift 2 gears with just one long press (unlike with the SLX where I need to press the shifter twice for 2 downshifts).

SLX can't downshift 2 gears in one press? I didnt know that! My old LX 8spd down shift 2 gears at a time. Shimano retrogressed?

Ok ,I just checked, my LX 8spd CAN downshift 3 gears at a time. Isnt yours defective/broken?

Can't imagine shimano going to one gear/one press shifting. Used to have non series 8spd shifters and even they downshift 2 at a time. Can't check though if it can dwnshift 3, it's off my bike now.
Replaced that with SRAM X-9 9spd. What they say is true about SRAM, it's shifting is spot on and crisp.

Good for you then. Even the current SLX (M670) isn't marketed as a multi-shift shifter.

Now I get it, your understanding of downshift is going to smaller cassettes. While the action is true(from big to small cassettes) its the opposite when you say downshift.

Quite confusing also when they say "pushing a big gear" when you're on the smallest cog.

So, my old LX can't shift 2 cogs at a time from big to small cogs.
New tech then for XT/XTR na pala.

I just did..but mine is xtr, my problem right now is the FD being a 3x10 specific, is too slow in shifting from granny to big chainring. Now i need a 2x10 FD. I converted my 3x chainring to 36/24 by the way.

Have you tried shortening your chain?

Not yet...jut703...i don't think i needed to. Tama lang yun slack nya since im using a long cage RD.. Its the best tuning that i can do or else chain will fall of the chainring...

i want to kill the biggest ring and replace it with a bashring..so switching the fd switch to 2 should be alright?...currently on 3x10...para makapaglagay na ako ng chainguide sa 2x10 setup

Yes..ok yan binabalak mo na 2x10 with bash guard...i just don't think that you need chainguide.. if you have issues from chain slaps (from your previous post), you could change your RD to shadow plus for shimano or type 2 if you're a sram user.

^ ano pong fullsus bike ang ni- test ride niyo?

buti pa ang mga LBS sa US, merong mga bikes for Test Rides.
mga big- ticket bikes pa ha. dito sa pinas, walang LBS na nagpapa- test ride ng mga
mamahaling bikes. kadalasan nakasabit lang sila sa mga kisame, or placed on a high stand.
looking- looking lang, but no touching- touching.
