Tara na. Set up na. Dati balita ko bawal daw mag dala ng bike sa Corregidor. Isa yun sa target ko mapuntahan on my bike eh. Dunno now kung pwede na mag bike dun. I'd advice you to setup a Deore bike nalang. For 20K you could have a decent frame, Deore groupset with disc brakes, Mavic rims. For an LX bike, you need another 10K pa siguro. Gulliver's setup is based on a Giant XTC frame kaya umabot ng 30K+.

Check out the Giant XTC or Giant Iguana hard-tails, may 17 and above, 15k sa Extreme. Am very happy with mine. Entry-level MTB's ata itong mga to by US standards, pero ok na ok para sa mga katulad kong recreational biker lang.

Max,
Some questions:
Do you really need the rear suspension? Do you plan to go cross country or downhill most of the time? Coz the rear shock will eat your power up really bad unless the shock has a lock out. Pero the Mongoose is a good brand naman basta orig hehe.

Recommendations:
Pre dont buy Ballistic forks. For a few hundred pesos more, you could go for is RST or SUntour. Pero mas ok pag Marzocchi, Manitou or Rockshox. Cant go wrong with either 3.
For tires, search for Nokian, Continental or Michelin.
For rims, I always trust Mavic.
The other parts are good naman.
Just remember, DONT SCRIMP ON HELMETS. Pare ulo natin ang pinaguusapan dito eh. Buy branded helmets ie Giro, Bell, Specialized, Louis Garneau.

May helmet ako dito specialize, pero mukhang out moded na yung shape hehehe wala ngang visor eh. ehehehe

gusto ko nga sana downhill kaya lang baka mawalan ako ng time kung pupunta pa ko ng malayo palagi. I was thinking of mixture na cross country and maybe do some trials(but not extreme trials)
may mga nag trtrials na ba dito?(kaya ko kaya? hehehe)
curious lang din kasi ako sa full suspension bike. noong araw very rare pa kasi ito. pero baka wag na nga lang

I saw the ballistic nga. lo-end talaga itsura pa lang. i suggested to go for Rock shoxTT (yung magnesium sana classic! pero 9k!!?)

the deore grpset looks ok to me, but the pictures are kinda small and my eyes are not so great still, mukhang katulad sa aking silver set rin. try to get the hand levers with separate elements for the gear changer and the brake. that way, according to some friends, if the bike falls and you break a lever, you don't have to change the whole assembly. i think that makes sense.

blackmagic had a good question i.e. why one with a rear shock?

on the other hand, full suspensions are supposed to be more comfortable on the trail, and invaluable on the downhill stretches...so unless you get the right mix (rear and front suspension elements) baka mapagod ka lang pag dating sa uphill and cross country.

pero i believe what others say that for a first MTB, a hard-tail is hard to beat. mas mabilis, mas magaan at mas madaling alagain. plus you can concentrate more money on getting a quality front shock fork.

then for those rough trailing trips, save up for a quality full-suspension (one part at a time) hehehe

re your hard-tail if you so decide, consider sticking with v-brakes, or v-brake in the rear, disc up front. mabigat din ang full disc brake setup. for the chain, specify the Shimano chain used in the XTR set up (about 800)...the chain on the Deore sucks. my first Deore chain broke after using the bike for about 200km. it sucks. the xtr chain definitely feels more sturdy.

Their attire is mainly for DH and XC biking. Di pa rin malalaos ang jersey with cycling shorts. Dayo na kasi Boss Kim. Dont forget to compose a primer on Sacobia Hills para ganahan kaming lahat hehe.

Jersey or Tshirt, cycling shorts or surf shorts, helmet, gloves, shades and cycling shoes lang for me. Set up ka na para sumama ka na sa amin. Dumadami na grupo natin sa biking. As of now there are 10 regulars na sa bike group. Ride on.

hehehe, according to mbaction magazine, circa 1980's pa daw yung look na yan at least for MTBkers. road-racers still use the body-hugging gear.

i like using long loose comfortable shorts enough to cover the thighs kasi i bike at night a lot. keeps my thighs warm. for rides over 15k, spandex underneath the shorts is a must for me para hindi ma irritate mga thighs ko

for the jersey naman, kung maganda katawan mo like BlackMagic and Mikko (my friend), puede na rin siguro body-fit pero sa mga mataba katulad ko, loose! ang importante siguro dyan, yung sweat-drying effects ng jersey or shirt. nike claims their not-so new line of sport shirts draw the sweat away from the body and flick them off your skin, through your shirt and into the air (sphere etc). wow. price range (800 up). mga magandang jersey (1,800 up).

protection gear? helmet critical when speeding, trailing or driving through po traffic. elbow pads and knee pads, pag nag serious trailing (which i still have to do) otherwise i don't use them dahil medyo hassle (but probably should for safety reasons).

gloves are good and essential (i think) esp kung ayaw mo magkaroon ng kalyo (i.e. pang-romansa kamay mo hehehe). they also add a layer for protection if you take a spill and use your hands to protect the rest of your body.

sorry for long post but this was a question i wanted to ask before getting a bike, and had to learn through observation, and some thinking

Ride back to Fort.

Eat breakfast.

Go home to our loved ones (office for me).

I will be driving to PICC and bike my way to the Fort to meet Gulliver and Mikko. Then bike to PICC then rest. BIke to Fort. eat BF then bike back to PICC.
