    Bakit Dalistan ang jersey niyan?...

SURPRISED to see a player named Paul Dalistan playing superbly for Gilas Pilipinas in the game against Chinese Taipei in the Fiba-Asia Cup? Well the same guy is Rain or Shine star guard Paul Lee. The 2011-2012 PBA Rookie of the Year caused quite a confusion at the POC-PSC Asian Games Task Force when sports officials mistook him for a questionable entry after his name was submitted with the other Incheon Asian Games-bound members of Gilas Pilipinas by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas . “Oo, nagulat nga yung mga tauhan natin. Kasi sino itong Paul John Dalistan na nasa Gilas? Bago ito ah? Ipinatawag pa namin ang SBP, only to find out si Paul Lee pala,” Philippine Sports Commissioner Chairman Richie Garcia, head of the task force, said in between laughs. Lee’s mom, Helen, gives Spin.ph a thorough explaination. Here's Paul Lee's mom Helen. Snow Badua “Apelyido ko yung Dalistan nung dalaga ako,” she said. “Nung pinanganak ko siya, hindi pa kami kasal ni tito (Edwin) mo. Nuong araw may Family Code ruling na hindi mo pa pwede ipagamit sa bata yung apelyido nung ama, kung hindi kasal.” The elder Lee explained that at the time Paul was born on February 14, 1989, she was not yet married to her son’s dad, Edwin. The two eventually tied the knot in October the following year. “By that time, nung kasal na kami, hindi pa din nababago yung Family Code. Nung 1995 na lumabas yung bagong ruling nila na pwede na yung apelyido ng tatay kahit hindi kasal,” she said. “Ang problema hindi namin naayos ng maigi sa Manila City Hall, hindi malinaw na napalitan. Kaya nung mag-apply si Paul ng passport nung nasa UE pa siya, dun kami nagulat lahat,” added Mrs. Lee. Paul’s girlfriend, Rubie Chua, also shared the ordeal of the hard-banging guard when he was facilitating his passport. “Ayaw pumayag ng DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) na Lee ang gamitin niya kasi naka-base yung gagawing passport sa birth certificate niya, yung NSO (National Statistics Office). Nakikiusap nga si Paul. Kaso hindi daw talaga pwede,” said Chua.

    “Familiarity breeds awe”
