after years of mountain biking, due to the numerous paved trails around my neighborhood, i've decided to give road biking a try...and i love it! i just mapped out a network of trails that takes me from my home to my work. it's 8 miles of uninterrupted trails, free from dangerous drivers and their poisonous fumes. it's a perfect way to get a light workout before and after work, plus it's the best way to save gas!

i'm new to this, so i would like to hear pointers and ideas from all the roadies here. it's also a good place to share our experiences, and even post pics of our bikes and rides. i'm currently training for my first century, so wish me luck.

here's my bike...it's the lightest, fastest, most agile bike i have ever owned.

btw, i kept my mountain bike, just in case the mountains call me.

Safe din naman sa atin ah. Been taking Buendia to Macapagal in '03 and '04 ok lang naman.

Kagandahan lang sa CA may bike lanes kahit sa Expressway (40-45mph max for cars), although I wouldn't risk it. I'd rather take the smaller roads.

nice bike FXT! i do road bike din but mine's a khs ill post a pic here soon

    comparing it on a mtb
    - hard to turn, man better watch out your foot being hit by the front wheel and worse being stuck between the front wheel and crank. just try this example turn your steering all the way to the left, position your right foot forward at 3 o'clock position then return the steering wheel to straight position
    - easier to pick up speed and can go up to 50kph on straight roads
    - 100psi tire pressure is normal
    - get ready for butt busting numbness after 3hrs of straight riding
    - for bike commuting, mtb still beats road, with all the bumps and cracks here in the phil you cant go faster than 30kph

century rides are pretty easy on roadbikes. i just did 180km last last weekend ago

btw how much does your bike weigh? mine's 18lbs, still trying to figure out how to lessen hehe

i see your using the plateau, great seat! mine's all busted up since i use it on my FS bike

    welcome to the guys-wearing-spandex club

thanks! going more than 30mph is actually no big deal, kase we were going faster than that sa downhill sa mountain bikes. yun nga lang, a lot smoother, so you can hear the sound of the wind a lot better. the riding position takes a while getting used to, kasi it's not as relaxed as MTB, pero pag sanay ka na, bale wala na rin. lalo na pag yung kamay mo nasa top ng handle bar, very comfortable na rin. pero pag nasa crouched position ka (for aerodynamics sa downhill) and your hands are on the lower bar, very uncomfortable pa rin, but in due time, i'll get used to that too. i'm not sure yet if road bikes handle better than MTBs, or maybe i haven't figured out yet the proper way of turning sa road bike. stay tuned...

You can post pictures and tie them to the location on Google Maps. Though I haven't tried it myself. Hehehe. Nangangati na rin ako for a bike. Isip ako kung 2nd hand or bnew. At kung san ko itatago na hindi hassle. Apartment lang kasi kami.

    Question.

I want a ROAD bike for daily travel lang (not in pinas btw), budget siguro under 12-18K...

No suspension, kahit konting gears lang (mostly flat pavement) naman... Can anyone give any combination of parts or whole bike suggestions so I can try to find one here in Singapore?

Daily route is less than 15min ride actually.

    I just want:

    1) relatively easy to pedal and get up to speed.
    2) doesn't just rust or break if used in the rain often
    3) not too pricey, as mentioned above.

Just want to reiterate, it's not for any "sporty" purpose, literally for daily transport lang.

    Thanks thanks!

Di naman pre, but daming laspag at sira din kasi sa used market kung di mo kinuha from biker talaga, unless super duper mura sa CC baka mapagastos pa sa pyesa down the road... yung worry ko.

saw this sa ebay singapore ok na sakin to, mahal ba for what it is?

veed - kung daily commuting i would advise you to get something faster than a mountain bike, but a little more versatile/tougher than a roadbike. problema sa MTB is they have relatively small-diameter wheels, so it's a lot of effort for a relatively short distance traveled. i would get something with like a 32" wheel.

kung hindi ka naman racer, you don't need the aggressive form and set up of a "pure" roadbike either.

may Trek dealer ba sa SG? they offer some really good bikes called "FX (hybrid)", and "Urban". those are ideal for urban commuting. you can even get the bike they sell to police forces :police:

kung wala, there is a Taiwanese company called Giant who has some really good products too. i also like Cannondale, but they're overpriced for what you want from the bike...

Road Biking - it's also a lot of fun!
