Agree. We should do and take everything in moderation.
ts1n1ta: ingat lang sa salad; make sure that the veggies are washed thoroughly - insecticide.
cumbersome: i saw a feature on a Filipino (with aids yata?), who was 'cured' by virgin coconut oil.
*cumbersome: hydrogenated lang pala yun? Anyway, it's only my wife that uses coconut oil... for her hair. Since I'm diabetic, we use mostly canola and olive oil at home.
About studies regarding food... who's to say that studies praising the health effects of certain foods aren't funded? The WHO had a tiff one time when it found out a study that it had supported that highlighted the benefits of sugar in the diet was actually funded by a sugar grower's organization. They had to go to another lab to verify/discredit the results.
Soy is still a good protein source... you just shouldn't overdo it, or treat it like a miracle cure for anything. I'm already under strict warning not to overdo soy anyway, because of my blood chem.

bossing niky, just would like to share that there were studies about canola as a decieving product. kabaligtaran daw yata yung mga claims. also, my officemate (33 years old) a canola cooking oil user before (because his best friend recommended to him) suffered a mild stroke due to hypertension and experiencing palpitation. another friend recommended to him to stop canola and replace it with either virgin olive, palm, or coconut. frequent palpitations were gone and he's now physically fit and back to the gym.Originally Posted by niky

Research has indeed shown that lauric acid which comprises almost half of coconut oil is active against enveloped viruses, including HIV, but i suppose it's a bit too early to say it's a cure. Until then, enjoy your macaroons.
OnT:
Soy does reduce cholesterol levels. If you eat too much taho, then you won't have space for lechon anymore. :D
the japanese tofu is extremely soft..medyo expensive pa in supermarkets..sarap..
yes, i like those first class tofu. i think fermented ang mga yun.Originally Posted by BlueBimmer

Honestly, while these research are factual, they address mostly on cases wherein people use a particular food group as their staple diet.
How on earth can most soy-reliant countries live for centuries in record good health (China, Japan, Korea etc) compared to the west who just embraced soy products the past few decades?
Just because western scientists says it's not good doesn't make it final.
Like what the previous poster said about eggs as well.
There are countless reports and research in the west that eating raw fish is extremely harmful, uhhmm... Where do most centurions exist nowadays? Japan.
Propaganda science should be read and considered but not automatically accepted as rule or final. Whether it's pro or con a particular product.
BTW, shouldn't all Buddhist monks be dead by now since they ONLY eat soy based products?
Meat is harmful as well, as most people know, but where will you get essential amino acids and creatine other than red meat sources?
These kind of "paranoia" diet news are just too hyped up 95% of the time.

We're merely using canola as a replacement for corn oil in frying (which we don't really do much of, anyway...) as virgin olive oil is kind of expensive to use to fry.

Too much oxygen can kill you. Dr. Alpha_One's diet tells people to actively stop breathing, so you can live longer!
