Volunteers Recruitment for 23rd SEA Games Now Intensifying!
The National Youth Commission is calling all interested individuals,
students, organizations, offices, churches, families and barkadas to
volunteer for this year’s biggest athletic event, the 23rd Southeast
Asian Games (SEA Games).
The games will be held in Metro Manila, Luzon and the Visayas. 9
cities in Metro Manila, 6 areas (Angeles City, Binangonan in Rizal, Cavite
City, Los Baños, Olongapo City and Tagaytay City) in Luzon, 4 areas (Bacolod
City, Cebu City, Danao City and Mandaue City) in the Visayas will serve
as venues for the different events.
A total of 15,000 volunteers are needed for the smooth implementation
of the 9-day event. Committees such as the Security Committee will need
335 male volunteers and 295 female volunteers to safeguard both the
spectators and the athletes during the events while the Programs and Ceremonies
Committee will need 550 students from grade school and high school and
550 pep squad dancers to participate in the Parade of Nations during the
Opening Ceremonies. They would also require the services of 1,000
marshals for the duration of the games.
The SEA Games National Volunteers Program is open to all interested
parties, ages 15 and up, has the dynamism and skills, possess the
spirit of volunteerism, who are ready to be part of the team that will make a
mark in history. Deadline for submission of application is on September 30,
2005 at 5:00 pm.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS TO THE SEA GAMES
HOSTED BY THE PHILIPPINES
After 14 years, the Southeast Asian Games will once again be held in the Philippines. And for the first time, the SEA Games will be brought to different towns and cities in the country giving Filipinos a ringside view of high-level, world class competition.
A total of 41 sports and 398 athletic events will be held in Metro Manila, Luzon and the Visayas. Nine cities in Metro Manila, 6 areas in Region 4-A (Lipa City; Tagaytay City; Silang, Cavite; and Los Baños, Laguna); 2 areas in Region 3 (Olongapo City and Angeles City); and 5 areas in the Visayas (Bacolod City, Cebu City, Danao City, Mandaue City and Lahug, Cebu) will serve as venues for the said events slated on November 27 to December 5, 2005.
The Games will provide Filipinos the opportunity to re-live the spirit of bayanihan, a value the Filipino is known for. Likewise, the occasion will allow us to rediscover & appreciate the many similarities we share with our ASEAN brothers.
The search for the 12,000 volunteers will help the Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PHILSOC) in running the activities of the games with 7,000 athletes and officials coming from the 11 ASEAN countries.
The Volunteers Program is open to all, from ages 15 years old and above. Volunteers must possess the following qualifications:
a. Must be Physically and mentally fit,
b. Can work under pressure
c. Excellent work attitude
d. Pleasant disposition
e. Willing to assume multiple tasks / roles
f. Flexible to shifting work hours
g. Must pass the Screening and Interview of the Committee on Volunteers
They will be assigned to any of these Committee responsibilities:
1. Liaison / Protocol
2. Sports Operation (Venues; Results Management; Awards)
3. Programs & Ceremonies (Opening & Closing Ceremonies, Conventions & Conferences, Special Events & Cultural Promotions, Public Awareness)
4. Support & Services (Medical and Doping Control, Communications)
5. Security
6. Secretariat (Results & Compilation, Accommodation)
We would like to invite you and your members to participate as volunteers. Uniforms and meals will be provided when you serve as volunteers. All volunteers will be interviewed in October and be trained in November.
