Many punters are disappointed at the lack of urgency when the first cases appeared in Wuhan at the end of 2019... Even after tracing ground zero to the Wuhan Seafood Market, the Chinese authorities didn't close it down and allowed it to continue to opeate a few more weeks. The Wuhan lockdown is likened to closing the corral after all the horses have already escaped.

the virus could have already been spreading in Wuhan in Q4 2019 but authorities downplayed it thinking it will go away on its own

Now why would China become so transparent all of a sudden? (even letting western media into Wuhan)

Singapore lah goes further and now require screening at their land entry points with Malaysia. All passengers on road transports and trains are required to alight and be subjected to temperature scan.... expect long line due to the CNY period.

Yung first positive corvirus sa SG was able to pass all the temp checkpoint at Changi and only got sick at the hotel. Considering the incubation period is 5 days to 1 week...

What we know so far:

• Origins point to China, with confirmed cases so far in: Japan, Macau, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the USA.
• There are suspected cases in many more countries (like the PH) but there is no concrete information yet that it is the same pathogen.
• This virus can be transmitted between humans.
• It causes fever along with pneumonia or pneumonia-like symptoms.
• Its symptoms include, among others, fever, breathing difficulties and coughing, all of which are described as "flu-like".
• It is not a strain of SARS or MERS.
• No specific treatment yet other than the usual anti-viral meds for coronaviruses.
• Mortality is roughly 2%.

Updates:

• Confirmed cases as well in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Vietnam.
• Mortality rate has risen to roughly 3%.

Third confirmed case in SG ...

MOH was notified of her case at 3am on Thursday. She tested positive for the virus at midnight. The woman is currently warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases and is in stable condition.

The woman had stayed at the J8 Hotel and visited Orchard Road, Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay.

China Orders Travel Agencies to Suspend Tours to Contain Virus Outbreak

China has ordered all travel agencies to suspend sales of domestic and international tours as part of an effort to contain the spread of a novel coronavirus that has killed 25 and sickened hundreds.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism ordered travel agencies and tourism companies to stop selling tour packages beginning Friday, according to a document seen by Bloomberg.

The action comes at the start of the Lunar New Year holidays, when millions of Chinese travel across the country and abroad. China is taking extraordinary measures as it tries to halt a disease that some fear could rival SARS.

The move will be a significant blow to the industry. Chinese tourists, the biggest source of outbound travelers worldwide, spent $130 billion overseas in 2018.
