On April 23, a potential coronavirus vaccine being developed at the University of Oxford began human trials.

Now a study involving up to 510 healthy volunteers between 18 and 55 is under way in Oxford and Southampton, with three further sites likely to be added.

Scientists working on the vaccine have said they could know within six weeks whether it will work.

Sir John Bell, Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford University, said “several hundred” Britons have now been given the experimental jab, with hopes that “signals” about whether it works could emerge by mid-June.

Elsewhere researchers at Imperial have developed a candidate which, when injected, will deliver the genetic instructions to muscle cells to make the SARS-CoV-2 spike surface protein.

This should provoke an immune response and create immunity to the virus.

The team, led by Professor Robin Shattock from Imperial's Department of Infectious Disease, has been testing the candidate in animals since early February.

Clinical trials are expected to begin in June and the team will look to recruit healthy adults to test the vaccine.

Anti-viral drug trio found to shorten COVID-19 illness in mild cases: Study - CNA

The trial, which involved 127 patients, compared those given the combination drug - made up of the HIV medicine lopinavir–ritonavir, the hepatitis drug ribavirin, and the multiple sclerosis treatment interferon beta - with a control group given just the HIV drug.

The findings, published in the Lancet medical journal, showed that on average, people who got the triple drug reached the point of no detectable virus five days earlier than those in the control group - at 7 days versus 12 days.

"Our trial demonstrates that early treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 with a triple combination of antiviral drugs may rapidly suppress the amount of virus in a patient's body, relieve symptoms, and reduce the risk to health-care workers," said Kwok-Yung Yuen, a professor at the University of Hong Kong who co-led the research.

and that realization (or shock) that the virus is more widespread than thought (which i've been saying for weeks)

if the number of new cases is their basis for relaxing the lockdown... they can never relax the lockdown

the WTC has 502 beds, with priority for returning OFWs, daw.

according to civic budget trackers, for some reason, mabagal daw mag release ng pera ang mga namumuno. ken abante of citizen budget tracker of covid 19 stated that, " more than a month into the enhanced community quarantine, only 14% of the social amelioration budget and 21% of the reported health budget have been spent." and that was taken from an interview last april 25 lang.

as recent as this week (just last thurs i think), i heard abante even say on a "wag po" interview that the gov't hasn't even spent half of the money allocated for the pandemic, w/c can be easily redirected and rerouted by the president via the bayanihan act, to any of the organizations that need the money.

in short, there is available cash through the loans extended to the country and what not, but it's not being used fast enough. ano ang rason? iyan ang tanong.
