In New Zealand, authorities investigating a tiny outbreak in September 2020 traced this moment to a 50-second window of time when one infected person likely breathed infectious particles into a hotel corridor, leading to two people in the room next door contracting Covid-19. Even more proof that, given the right conditions, Sars-CoV-2 only needs a tiny window of opportunity to create an outbreak.

It wasn’t until much later that the mystery was finally solved. An analysis of CCTV footage from the hotel showed that on the twelfth day of their quarantine, there was a 50-second window where patient C’s door was open while they were tested for Covid-19. Although the two adjacent doors were never open at the same time, researchers think that this was enough time for viral particles emitted by C to blow into the corridor and linger in the air long enough to be breathed in by D or E, who were next in line to be tested.

even in our local setting,
some laboratories have already spoken out, that their RT-PCR reports are being faked by unscrupulous entities.

some days ago,
someones here posted their antibody levels from a famous tertiary hospital laboratory.
the paper had conspicuous typo errors,
and i immediately suspected fakery.
but the post-er said they were genuine.

yes doc i am aware of fake PCR tests here and it can happen also in india

pero i'm still saying kahit totoo ang negative PCR test result ng pasahero hindi ibig sabihin sigurado wala siya dalang virus

maari during the time of the swab (maybe 2 or 3 days before the flight) there wasn't enough virus genes to pick up

by the time nag land ang eroplano sa HK the virus has multipied enough in the nasopharyngeal area for the swab to pick up

kaya sa mga bansang very strict they quarantine all arrivals

coz they know the virus is sneaky

it may take 5 days or 10 days or even more than 14 days for symptoms to come out

kaya may mga bansa 21 days ang quarantine

sasabihin ko uli kahit GOLD STANDARD ang PCR (there's no test as sensitive) the timing of the swab is very important

pag bagong hawa ka lang mag nenegative ka sa PCR

it takes a few days for viral load to go up -- that's when you'll test positive

Not discounting that. Also possible. Am not sure how the air ducting in NZ are designed but here the AHUs are definitely shared between rooms on the same corridor. Maybe even the entire floor.

Maganda sana kung may filtration/UV yung ducts and air purifiers with UV for the rooms. But that's a lot to ask. In hospitals they have negative pressure rooms for infectious patients.

I guess we were lucky.
around the time of the first wave last year (October, 2020)
the condo unit right across my office had a positive covid patient.
buti na lang my employees and I havn't seen the resident of the condo unit since the start of the Pandemic.
The Local LGU health officials brought him to the isolation center.
We had to close the office early before the health officials arrived for fear of being forced to quarantine inside. Luckily none of us got infected or came down with anything.
swerte din cguro that our building is the older type without any central A/C.
We adopted that when the office opens most of the windows are also open even with A/C on.
